Quote:
Not to drop a bomb or anything, but yes, 8th edition will be out next summer with a new boxed set in the fall. I’ve heard Empire vs. Orks in the box with a new O&G book out in Q1 2010. Plastic Empire Knights and Orc Boar boys will be in the new set I’ve heard. They keep one-upping themselves with the box sets so I would expect a mountain of amazing plastics in the new starter set.

Personally I think it is too soon for another new edition, and was hoping for something other than greenskins in the box again (4th, 6th, 7th and now 8th had some form of greenskins in the starter box). Empire or Wood Elves vs Beasts of Chaos would of been nice, or even Bretonnia vs Tomb Kings.

Discuss.

Yeah but not mandatory. Good for all the greenskin generals out there I guess. I would have just liked a little more variety. Every edition has included an army not previously included in the starter set in it:

4th - High Elves vs Goblins
5th - Bretonnia vs Lizardmen
6th - Empire vs Orcs
7th - Dwarfs vs Goblins
8th - back to Empire vs Orcs

I would of just liked something different. Considering Chaos seem to be a central part of the Warhammer background it'd make sense for them to be in somewhere.

Variety is the spice of life, as the saying goes.

I also think it's too early for 8th, I'd expect another couple of years for 7th as there are still a slew of army books that need re-doing.

Being somehwat new to the game (A little over a year now), I think its way too soon for a new edition! After all, I'm still learning this one! Personally, I think they should worry about getting the game ballanced across the board so they can focus on making a couple of new armies and some more great expansions like the Storm of Chaos book, or Lustria instead of constantly being worried about the latest edition of this book or that.

As for a new starter, I think they should go with the "Something new, something old" approach. Cathyan vs Chaos Dwarfs.

it is too early but they do need a new rule book the current one is hard to navigate and some of the rules

A dont work
B are not well explaned

as for the armies orcs are the most important evil army. they almost arnt evil and you can never replace that with chaos

There were rumours that next year we were going to see a '7.5' edition (ie, a clean up of the current rules). If the post I quoted is true though it looks like it will be 8th edition.

A lot of people are saying that the new Skaven book is sort of a hint at what will be in the new edition (changes to War Machine stat lines, no partial hits from template weapons, etc).

I reckon they keep the greenskins in because they sell well. They have always been the typical bad guy, but seem to draw a lot of people as well

As for me, im quite happy if its empire and orcs, as they are my two main armies! yeah!

The earlier box sets are $$$EXPENSIVE$$$. I've been trying to get my hands on some of the earlier starters for a while now, but they always go for more money than I want to spend on them. I'd especially like to get my hands on the Brett/Lizardmen starter.
