I was just randomly searching via Google and unfortunately its a sculpture not a mini but there must be something out there

Something else... regarding the Nautican Hero and Lord non-special characters I really think they should be given Scalemail as standard to make them more balanced

Hi gondor. Hopefully not too many !

I think the Coastal Hermit will probably come out (although he's a fun character I'm not sure he quite fits with the army).

Note: the character count isn't really that high compared to say Warriors of Chaos or Daemons of Chaos (if my memory serves me)

Granted there are more characters than some of the books like Tomb Kings and Beasts of Chaos.

Hopefully, none of them are game killers. If you were to remove say 3 which would you choose ?

Keep the feedback coming Gondor.

Finished reading v3 last night and working out a few combos and lists for play-testing tonight. Came across a couple of issues regarding characters which might cause the army some problems.

Sea Creature Origins
Lord and Hero characters aren't included in these lists. This could make sense in that the Characters come from all across the ocean realm, but I would favour the 'Deep' option for most of them.

Armour Saves on Nautican Lords & Princes
Ok, as a Dwarf player I am used to having characters with 1+ rerollable AS and the like. Even High Elves get a decent 1+ or 2+ AS with the right combos, but its extremely difficult to anything close to that with the Nautican characters. This to me makes them to easy to kill in combat, best combos I could come up with were:

Princes
Option 1 --> Scalemail, Great Clam Shield - 108pts for 3+ AS
Option 2 --> Scalemail, Starfish Shield - 93pts for 5+ AS that improves vs. number of enemy attacks to maximum of 2+

Lords
Option 1 --> Levithian Plate Mail, Great Clam Shield - 200pts for 1+ AS which can never be reduced below 5+

While these are OK, they do take away any chance these characters have of taking magical weapons, i.e., Great Clam Shield costs 40pts leaving Prince with 10 left. Leviathan Plate costs 55 and Starfish Shield 20.

Sirens defensive options
I like to work out standard builds for characters and units based on strategy. For mages that comes down to 3 basic roles (1) Offensive - attack the enemy, (2) Defensive - protect your troops or (3) Anti-Magic - stop enemy magic phase

There are some good options available but I can't help thinking something is missing.

Offensive Items
Coral Amulet +1 PD

Basic Option would be Siren Lvl 2 w. Coral Amulet & Power Stone --> 190 pts 2 Spells, 3 + 2 PD

Anti-magic items
Eye of Kraken MRI with Spell Eating ability on 5+
Chrystal Chime - Enemy casters must pass l/ship test to cast
Muses Harp

Basic Option would be Siren Lvl 1 w. Eye of Kraken & Dispel Scroll ---> 165 pts

Defensive items
Eye of Kraken???

Anyway thats my two cents worth - play testing tonight will let you know how it goes

Sigmar: Agreed

Sigmar: Hi Kiwi, I did this on purpose. I wanted the Nautican Lords and Princes to rely most on their special tactics, unit combintaitons and creatures rather than themselves, much like Wood Elf characters. Let's see how it plays out on the battlefield before making any changes.

Sigmar: Thanks Kiwi, let me take a closer look at their defensive capabilities and I'll come back to you on that one.

Note that the Siren and Mermaid have some unique non magic attirbutes that make them attractive for inclusion in the army. Siren +1 combat res (worth 25pts on it's own) and Mermaid, -2 to the enemy's leadership if they try to hit or fire at the mermaid.

Thanks for your help, I'm looking forward to the playtesting results

PS. I'll tidy up the site this weekend. It will have to change to draft 3.1 because I need to make some changes which afect the rules. I wasn't planning to but I've only just spoted the issues.

Thats cool mate - unfortunately I didnt get to go to my local club last night so couldnt do more play testing but plan on a few games next week.

Putting together some nasty combos at the moment, Trident especially - even managed a 500 pt list that has 2 units of Crabs in it.

Yep, There are quite a few nice ways to beef up a Trident Guard unit. Crabs are also one of my favourites (along with sandgangers which are extremely useful and Crest Riders which are just a bit different and good for tactical variety). Try to make sure you receive any cavalry charge with other units and then get the charge in with your crabs. Could be difficult because they can be deployed ahead of the other units but that's one of the challenges of using them.

They are excellent against Dwarfs who they should always be able to charge and against any other highly armoured foot troops.

A smart enemy will engage them with unarmoured troops and hold them up for a flank charge from some mounted troops. They might be stubborn but they won't stand a prolonged combat with a leadership of 7. They really need to be used with or as a support unit.

Just amended Zharc's rules and profile (no more speargun and rule much more fitting with the proposed model). He can now lead a unit of Weresharks (the other unit I've just added). Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Sigmar

I think dolphins are a great mount for Sirens. Maybe give them movement 9, and maybe a bottlenose rule?
Also, I was looking at reaper minis and found a Mermaid sitting on a chair. I think maybe that could be a great mount, so here are the rules.

Poseidon's Throne-175pts
Movement 7, Toughness 7, 4 Wounds.
The Mermaid rides the throne on a wave of water which pushes her along. It grants her a 4+ Ward Save,as the magical aura emanating from the Throne protects her.
(Sigmar, thought it could be like the Engine of the Gods/Cauldron of Blood. It supports the army)
It possesses powers which can be used at the start of the magic phase. These can be used irregardless of any dispels(kind of like Engine of the Gods. Treat it like a shooting attack)
Water Wall
The Mermaid pushes out a Wall of Water, which provides a -2 to hit to every unit with a model within 6 inches.
The Power of the Trident
The Mermaid harnesses the power of Poseidon's Throne, giving herself d3+1 extra power dice.
The Strength of the Ocean
The Mermaid surrounds the target(which may be herself) with a sphere of water, and endows them with the strength and fortitude of the sea. The target gain +3 strength and +1 toughness as they smash their enemies with fists of water and shield themselves with layers of water. The target may not use any weapons while they use the Strength of the ocean, but they may use armor. If the target is attacked with a flaming attack, the strength of the ocean will be destroyed, but will destroy the fire in the weapon thus rendering the weapon un-flaming.

Thanks galeac, nice idea.

Funnily enough, I had a game this weekend with the Nauticans and my opponent sugested something very similar. Some kind of Warshrine/Screaming Bell/Empire Pope Mobile equivalent.

I will be incoporating something along the lines above and I like your idea. I was only going to tweak the army but I'm now planning some quite major changes and I will be including something like the above. I like the name you chose aswell.
