Guardian came up with a great idea - let's get a forum eZine (online magazine) going ! We can produce it in a pdf format for anyone to download. It will be a great way to promote the forum and member websites/blogs and to show off our member's talents (through tactics, stories, miniatures, artwork etc)

Guardian rightly points out that most online magazines focus on a single race whereas we cover for all of them. Not only that but we have our own unique project threads, loads of great painted minis and threads covering roleplay, modelling, terrain, and newly added forums for other Games Workshop products.

So, let's get some ideas together and, if you'd like to contribute let us know what you'd like to write about. There are no conditions, we can include any Games Workshop related content or related gaming content.

See your name in print and links to your chosen websites/blogs. Here's are some ideas of content we could include:-

Some ideas for magazine articles:

-Warhammer Army tactics
-Warhammer Campaign (A series of WHFB games that will tell a larger story)
-Painting guides/tips
-Battle Reports
-Picture Galleries of member models
-Your warhammer project updates
-a Feature on your website/blog
-Custom/Fan Made Armies/Items/Rules
-Warhammer Fan Fiction

Feel free to suggest more ideas or say what you'd like to contribute. We can make it a regular affair (maybe quarterly) if there are enough content providers, for now, let's just see what everyone thinks.

Sounds interesting.

Getting people that can do all the stuff needed is tough, I know this first hand. That is the reason one of the webzines I work on is a multi-forum effort. If you have problems doing your own you could join up with The Doom Seeker.

I think its a great idea.

I will help where I can, but my time will be limited for awhile. Been working on a 40k minidex release slotted for November. After that I should have alot more time.

Might try my hand at writing some fiction.

I'd like to contribute as well. Just let me know where help is needed and I'll be happy to add my insignificant tallents wherever they are needed.

I want to do a little more work on the Red Goblin project I did a while back to flesh it out just a little more and submit that for the ezine. (If anyone would like to contribute to the project let me know. http://battlereporter.freeforums.org/re ... -t615.html )

What a fantastic response ! Thanks everyone.

I think we should accept all content that anyone wants to contribute providing it has something to do with the hobby and is either interesting, funny, inspiring, informative etc. Basically, anything that people might enjoy reading or looking at (ie minature pics/artwork/battle photos). Even promotional content for other sites is fine providing there are some nice pics etc and someone out there will enjoy visiting the promoted site.

I'll think up some contribution guidelines with Guardian and how we can go about it to make sure contributions look reasonably consistent and they're reasonably easy to combine into a single document.

We'll make the 1st edition our trial run. The objectives are:-

1) get some more forum members
2) produce a mag that people will want to read again and
3) have fun doing it !

I'm happy to do the editing work.

So, for now, please respond by saying what articles you'd like to contribute and we'll see what sort of content we might get for the 1st edition.

So far we have...

Fan fiction
Custom Armies
Red Goblins
Nautican Tactics

Let's aim to get something out there before Christmas. That might sound a long way off but believe me, when you get a lot of different people together these things tend to take quite a long time to put together.

There is a reason most of the forum webzines out there, Word of Hashut (Chaos Dwarf Online), Skaven Blight Gazette (Under Empire), etc., come out quarterly. It takes that long to get quality articles, artwork to use.

Good luck with it.

It might be a good idea to publish a short guide to the Nauticans with the first issue as well so that the rules for them will be redily available to anyone reading your tactics section. We could also add a link to the main rulebook.

We could ask dims if its ok to use his Dwarf painting guide. Some kind of Basing guild might be well received as well if someone is up to it.

It should be pretty easy to choose a couple of the better Battle Reports that include pictures to add.

We could add a little article/picture gallery associated with our painting compitetion.

I'll see what I can do about making sure we get some Chaos Dwarf and Lizardmen content as well.

Ok folks, I've been having a look at some other online Ezines and I reckon we need quite a few articles to make this attractive for a wide-ish audience.

I'd like to aim for 10 quality articles covering at least 1 (A4/letter sized) page (hopefully several pages) plus let's say another 10 half page features (some of which could be adverts for other sites)

So, I guess if we can get 10 contributors who are prepared to write a longish article and a short one then we might be in business.

So far we have 7...

Guardian
Eagle
Kiwi
Msehammer
SoK
Axinous (possible) and
Myself

I reckon 10 contributors is probably a minimum to make sure we have a nice variety of input and plenty of opinions / talents represented to make it a fulfilling read. So, if we can find 3 more people we'll take it further and start getting organised.

We could use nice tips from the questions thread. Or any nice tips in painting/tactics/modelling/anything from any thread. I don't know just throwing ideas about. I might pitch in if your desperate (trust me you'll need to stoop down to use me) in Battle Reports and Fanfic and possibly the Campaign.

P.S. Lol sorry for the low self-esteem

Talk to other sites that run webzines for reciprocal ads (yours in theirs and theirs in yours). Those ads are usually full page.

How many pages are you shooting for? Most first issues seem to be around 20 pages up to 32 pages.

When you release the issue you will have to post on all the other boards it's been released. Most allow you to link to your site no problem but you may want to get people who post the ad to more than just the ad on their sites. You don't have to be there daily but weekly posting is nice. Allowing them to post on your site with links would be kind to them. If you want to post an ad on Lustria-Online you must PM the admin first, they are the only site that does that.

I know The Doom Seeker would take your ad if you put an ad for TDS (and it's sister forums) in it. Page for Page ad sharing. I'm pretty sure Gold and Glory (Dogs of War Online) and Word of Hashut (Chaos Dwarfs Online/Chaos Star Forums) would be favourable to that also. Not sure about Skaven Blight Gazette (Under Empire/skavenblightgazette.com I think) or the Invocation (Carpe Noctem).

I know that G&G and TDS did put a listing of other forums in their last issues and TDS will do that each issue (G&G might).

As I stated before if you cannot do one yourselves you could join The Doom Seeker as one of their supporter sites.

Thanks for all those tips Bilbo. I guess we're looking for a minimum of 20 pages.

Thanks also Powner, we can certainly pull some of the good stuff from the forum. Esp the miniature pics and the results frmo our painting competition.
