Folks,

I am considering how to open the fighting. Because everyone has about the same points value it seems unfair to discount Movement (all of the other stats will be used - except Ballistic Skill)

So, my question to you is. Should I :-

1) Run the fights as challenges or
2) Allow one side to charge into combat ?

(for charging I was thinking of letting the hero with the highest Movement to roll against their movement to see if they charge, if he fails then the opponent rolls against their movement to see if they charge, if the opponent fails then the 1st hero charges).

* note: because of the wolf rider's high movement rate he always charges into combat.

Well, if no one is going to suggest the approach I should take I am going to run this Battle Royale like a simulated Battlefield fight.

So the character with the highest Movement will get the first chance (die roll) to charge into the fight. This will take into account the points that characters have had to pay for their movemebnt rate, this way, only Bow skill will not be taken account of. Also, I think it will lend a greater element of unpredicatbility and thus make the scrap more fun.

If a lot of people moan, I might run the fights again as plain challenges.

Why does one preclude the other? I usually get the charge with my Bret Lord, but I also usually challenge due to the ever popular duellist build.

Brett,

They don't but when I asked the original question I thought they did. I really need to play a few different people rather than the same opponent because we have a habit of lining up characters on the charge and thereby automatically accepting challenges without even a mentionof it being a challenge.

I think what I really meant to ask above was, should I be allowing one side to charge into combat at all, or should they fight in initiative order. As it happens, in the end I quite like the way I've done it, allowing the side with the highest movement to roll less than or equal to their movement to charge, otherwise the opposition charges. It kind of gives everyone a chance of getting the charge in.
