Are black orcs worth their cost. With a shield they have a 4+ AS and WS4 and STR4 and huge array of choppas. Very nice adn not to mention no animosity and auto waagh. But they die almost as easy as regualr orcs and you can get 2x as many vanilla orcs as black orcs. I tend to lean not to taking black orcs and save my pts and special slot for something else.

What they need to do is give black orcs 2 attacks and make them 1 or 2 more pts. Then they would be well worth it, but till then, not so much for me.

What do you have to say on the matter?

At one point I was leaning to starting an all Orc army(Pulled out last minute and got High Elves)and Black Orcs seemed to be where it was at,especially when combined with Grimgor  .

Summary There good if used as the center of your army, heavily armed and very stable good place for your leaders.

From my exp., BO's are the biggest and badest orcs in the game and everyone knows it, but they are still orcs. They can hit hard but still die as easy as reg Orcs sometimes, effected by phyc and have little to no protection against magic. I like running LARGE units in my 2250pts list, I currently running 130+ models including 20 BO's. I use my BO's as duel roles, an ace in the hole that don't get into combat untill rd 4+ and as bodyguards for the WB's. This combo allows me to keep my hordes within the Gen Ld and I can set up the attack I want not my opponent. They are the baddest orcs but they aren't the baddest. I hope I helped.

Black Orcs are a great unit. A couple of big blocks of them can form the back bone of a formidable army.

When my friend let me play O&G, I took like 30 of the guys. They do die, but they absolutely ran over about half his brett army first. They can hit HARD and they are relatively easy to keep there (psych wise). No Animosity is what did it for me, though.

i think they r bad considering i could run 35 boys with extra choppa and full command for bout the same price but i get more attacks at one less WS. oh well and i use my specials for squig hoppers which are amazing

I'm not really sure. It depends on what tactics I have in mind for my army. I tend to like to take at least one elite unit into battle to give my opponent something to think about and to focus his attention away from what's really going on ;)

On that basis, I probably would stick a Black Orc unit in the army on most ocassions but I think they probably are a touch too expensive for what you get in comparison with your average orc.

Okay check out this tactic that I've used to very good effect. I took a block of about 25-30 normal boyz with extra choppas, and then I took 2 units of ten Black Orcs to hit the flanks of enemies that engage my large block of boyz. So far, with this tactic, I've slaughtered anything from High Elf Spearmen to Brettonian Grail Knights, so there's my little tactic bit.

eagle. thats not a bad idea, but i dont think id use it.

We have too many good specials and not having enough slots is my biggest problem.

When i play greenskins, vanilla orcs with a warboss dont have trouble against other infantry for the most part. Our high Toughness and static combat res keeps them in the fight along with some kills from teh warboss. Now we have problems with high T (above 5) and high armor saves. So what solves this problem...war machines. I love 2 doom diver and 4 bolts. This hurts heavily armored units and monsters with high T. so i knock out these and vaniila orcs do the rest. I generally field 4 bolts and 2 chariots. The chariot work wonders with vanilla orcs giving them the kills and the orcs provide the static combat res. So those are my special choices. I dont think i could waste 2 special slots for black orcs.

2 doom divers and 4 bolt throwers ! Gulp, I'll have to remember that for our Goblin Nautican challenge.

The question is... will you do a bluff or am I double bluffing with my comment above in which case do you know and, if you do, will you triple bluff me with your army selection ?! ;)

One unit of black orcs with 18 strong w/shields and waaaggh banner are in line with cost to 30 strong regular orcs and can do more damage. You do not want to pay for full rank bonus with "elite" black orcs when it is cheaper rank bonus with regular orcs. The waaagh banner is aces when you call a waagh and a charge and use the banner 8"+2d6" charge range catch enemies off guard a lot. Use in combo with a chariot or regular block for more kill or static res. or use wolfies to mitagate enemies rank bonus.

waagh banner is just d3 inches so black orcs would get d6 + d3, still really nice

Black Orcs in CC can choose Choppas, Great Weapon or 2 Choppas. So what was this about less attacks?
