Well, I started working on this guy before work yesterday afternoon. But to be honest, I'm just not that happy with how he's turning out so far. Hopefully when I get up in a few hours I'll take another look at him and find some way to make myself happier with the model. Any way you look at it, this guy is going to involve a LOT of work by the time I'm done. Maybe I should start taking pics now so I can show his construction step-by-step?

Ya, take pics. Then we can help you make it look better!

I took a quick pic of my WIP Braugh Slavelord. At this point I've used bitz from the following: Ogre Tyrant gutplate, Ogre Bull sprue, Ogre Command sprue, Ogre Irongut sprue, Lizardmen Stegadon sprue, Giant sprue, & Empire Flagellent sprue

The hands, I cut the weapons from a couple of bull hands, then drilled them out so I can slide the chain through it. I figure it will make things look a lot more natural if the chain really does go through the hand instead of only trying to make it look that way.

The head itself is another chop job. I cut the beard off of one head and put the beard from another onto the first head. I liked the skulls in the beard for this model, but I wanted to use a head without the patch over the eye. So this was what I ended up coming up with. I still need to do a little touch up to fill the gaps between the head and the beard, but everything lines up really well, so it should look nice when I'm done.

Pictured with the model are two Flagellents that I plan to use as slaves on the main base, I intend to add an zombie to the mix as well just to spice it up a bit. There is also quite a few bits pictured that I hope to use on the model, the ones setting on the base, I know I'll use for sure, the ones to the side, I'm not as sure about.

Does anyone have any ideas for how to tarnish the chain I have pictured?

As always, all thoughts and comments are welcome!

OK, heres a tip on rust effects. Basecoat it all the way brown, whatever brown, but a dark one is recommended. Next, paint over the brown with a red (Blood Red) in almost all of the spaces, like 90%. Finally, add streaks of metal color (Boltgun Metal or Chainmail) in random areas.

You now have a rusted chain!

Here are some WIP pics of my Braugh Slavelord. I'm pretty happy with how he's turning out so far. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on the model!

The black on the face is "Dimensional Fabric Paint" (What you use to write on t-shirts. Its cheap and easy to work with on small spaces like the gaps in the beard.) A drop of it and a razor to work it into the gaps with solved my problem with the beard.

Working with the chain was an interesting experience. It kept wanting to kink up on me, so it ended up taking a lot longer than I expected to get it to go where I wanted it. In the end though, I was happy with how it looked. I put a piece of it along the belt, and used two longer pieces for the two hands. Each end of the two chains were long enough to stretch wherever I wanted, so I hooked both ends of one to the one slave, and only one end to the other slave. The single free length of chain is for when I put together a unit of slaves. I'll drape the chain over one of the models to make him look more a part of the unit.
