I used the casket of souls for the first time this past weekend.Wow!My friends new warriors of chaos army took a beating in the first round. He didn't leave any dispell dice and he paid the price.lol.first round went like this-TK-was able to move his unit,LP dispelled,LP-dispelled,and there was a banner in there also that was dispelled, then THE COS-halved a war machine crew,3 out of 5 riders of some sort,5 out of 5 riders(same as others)2 warriors out of 20,5 out of 10 warriors,7 out of 10 warriors-which went on to fail panic test and ran away.I will try to play another game this weekend and post the total battle.

When I played TKs I had a casket in my first list. You only get to really use it once, because once your opponent has seen what it can do, you can bet your ass he'll work to counter it next time. Also, he must have be rolling huge dice scores to lose so many models. I'll agree it's a nasty piece of kit but I feel in 2k points it's a bit pricey and makes the Lich Priest a sitting duck for fast cavalry or fliers.

the opponent doesn't roll to do the wounds :) the casketeer rolls 2d6+2 then subtracts enemy leadership unmodified of unit and that unit takes remainder in wounds unsavable. It's fan frikkin tastic.

Sorry, I suffered an English fail on that post, I am aware that it is the casket owner rolling the dice... still, to combat high LD troops and do lots of wounds must have been rolling pretty sweet as averages on 2d6 is a 7.

2D6 + 2 is an average of 9. Even when facing the average man stat line that's three dead per unit in a six turn game assuming that you only face two dispel dice per turn against the casket thus getting it off half the time. Assuming 9 points per model (halfway between the 8ish for swordsmen, and 10 for handgunners) 3 per unit is 27 points per unit, meaning to pay for the casket you'd have to face an average of 6 units that will have full time LoS.

To me, it just reinforces the holes in the current TK magic system.

Personally, I quite like the casket (especially on a hill !) It reminds me of the Anvil of Doom, ie. annoying !

It really depends on your opponent. I was playing against wood elves so it went off first turn and then was in combat being eaten by warhawks from turn 2, certainly not worth the points it costs. Personally I'd be willing to sacrifice two scrolls to it before getting something to it and crushing it in melee where it really is very weak.

I did have a bad game though that time, I got steamrolled.

I have zero fear of the Casket with my Brets. I have more MR than it has casting dice. And its not nearly as annoying as the Anvil. The Anvil is an almost guaranteed non-interruptable unstoppable force. You can't hide from LoS, you can't dispell it, etc. The Anvil has serious balance issues. The Casket does too. The other way around. The Casket is fairly weak, easily nullified, and its strength feeds its weakness, let alone any miniscule effect it has on the TK magic phase. Just not enough "power dice" coming from an army.
