What sounds like the best idea to use the Classic Harlequin models in a game.
Use the 2nd Edition Harlequin Army List 100%  100%  [ 1 ]
Convert my own Harlquin Eldar Army 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

Hey all, I figured I'd come to you first with a couple thoughts I've been toying with recently. I'm considering a trade that will get me ~70 of the classic Eldar Harlequin models and I'm trying to figure out what the best uses for them would be as they are fantastic models and would be very fun to paint. I've got two main ideas

1) Use them as is, pull out the 2nd Edition Harlequin Army list and just use that in friendly games only.

2) Get to work on some major conversions and make a fully functional Eldar Army using only the Harlequin models. Replacing many guns for the right weapons (for Fire Pikes, Chain Swords, all the other fun weapons) while doing a bit of green stuff work to make everything fit.

or, of course, this could just sound silly to you and I should not do it.

I would recommend leaving them as is. As you know, unless the conversions are really good, they won't fetch high prices, and not that I doubt your skills, but leaving them as is will guarentee you a sure spot in selling them to the older model collectors and so on.

Of course, I have no real interest in Harlequins or Eldar, so what I would be doing is sit on them for years to come, keep them in nice condition, maybe strip them of paint, leaving just the metal. Then after keeping them for several years, sell them for good chunk of cash.

But in my opinion, 100% conversioned Harlequin army will be long, expensive, and may turn outto be very useless....

Which would you enjoy more? Would it be worth it?

Those are the two questions that matter, and the only answer that matters is yours.

You are right, those are very worthwhile questions.

As I really do like the models just in general, I would prefer to keep them as is but I wouldn't be able to use them together in a worthwhile army and that is a big downside to me. Sure they would be there to paint, and that would be fun, but there would be little motivation behind it.

Other other option of doing a massive overhaul and creating an all harlequin current day eldar army however would be quite a project for someone who has very limited modeling experiance, but the outcome if done correctly could be fantastic and very fulfilling.

So again, I like hearing people opinions and ideas on things, thats why i made this topic

Then I would suggest a minimalist approach. Find a way to model them "counts as" without destroying the models "as is".
