Since there are no Dark Elf posts yet, I thought'd I'd start with the most important thing to come in the Dark Elf world, the new army book. As posted by Sigmar on the main blog, here's yet again a summary of what possible changes are to be made.

* Army Wide Special Rules: +1 Attack on the charge and Hatred.
* Black Guard - Now a Special Unit and have a stat increases similar to Swordmasters.
* Executioners - lose Killing Blow and gain a "armour piercing" saving throw modifier (-3) against Armoured foes.
* Witch elves - ASF ability + poison.
* Dark Magic Lore - New spell in the Dark Lore similar to the frenzy spell in the skaven book
* Magic Items (many changes expected - and needed !)
* Cold Ones gain +1 attack and might not to be subject to stupidity.
* Dark Riders - cheaper in points cost
* A new monster as a rare choice.
* Repeater Bolt Thrower - 2 can be taken as a cingle choice.
* Chariots - can no longer take 2 as a special choice.
* Harpies are cheaper.
* Sorceresses can suffer a wound or kill an adjacent model to gain an extra power dice.

And here's a very nice bit of news for the Dark Elf Commanders out there...

Repeating Crossbows are St4 and 2x shots if they stand still and if they move it shoots like a normal bow.

In my opinion, I am stoked for every one of these new rules, i want them all to be true. All but one at least. I can see how +1 attach on the charge could be fairly nice, but I think army-wide spite would be fantastic. Imagine being charged and still get every attack back no matter how many die (plus re-rolling missed hits because we WILL hate everybody).

That would show thought haughty High Elves who's really on top.

Oh and one rumor was left out, assassins becoming cheaper and possibly being able to hide in enemy ranks. that would be a dream come true.

Otherwise:
Black Guard stat increase = amazing
Executioners change = gotta do some dice experiments, but could be rad
Witch Elves = amazing, there better be new models though
New Dark magic = much needed, suppose to be very destructive as well!
Magic items are indeed very much needed
If Cold Ones lose stupidity I could die happy
Cheaper Dark Riders, even better march blocking!
VERY excited for the new monster, and hopefully they redo all the existing ones
bolt throwers are already been 2-for-1
Chariots I could care less about, I'll want the room for Black Guard anyways!
I might consider taking harpies now
Sorceress power would be used often in my army
Crossbowmen with S4 would be great, but I still enjoy rolling 20 dice at one

Theres my two bits, any other opinion? Maybe for those of you facing Dark Elves?

Assassin's in enemy ranks ?!! That would be a new one, I assume it would mean the enemy lose their rank bonus in combat. Would the assassin be able to move with the enemy unit I wonder ?

Where did you hear the rumour ? I get most of mine from other forums or sometimes GW staff.

Anyway, like you say, if the rumours are true there are some nice bits and pieces being considered.

I quite like the armour piercing weapons idea, especially against enemies like Bretonnians which must be rock hard for Dark Elves to beat. The extra xbow strength probably helps too.

Any ideas on what the new creature might be ? I've been racking my brains but can't come up with any ideas :(

Assassins in enemy ranks is a little bit of a stretch since currently only Shadowblade, the Dark Elf Special Character is allowed to do that. But Assassins may be a core unit upgrade kinda like fanatics are currently.

I have no idea what the new monster could possibly be. I've been reading through warseer and though people have interesting ideas, none of them i feel fit Dark Elfs. My favorite speculation though is of a Cockatrice, body of a snake, but taloned legs, wings, and the head of a rooster. Crazy I know, but neat when you think about a lord/beastmaster mounted on it.

My personal ideas:
Cyclops - Dark Elf's personal unique giant
Kraken - Though it's water based, dunno how that would work
Some other warter-based creature - they Darkblade books talk of woman-esque figures below the water
Phoenix - Best Mount Ever? I think so

Those are merely my own ideas, in no way are they likely.

The Cockatrice used to be in a very old Warhammer Bestiary and you could use it in the games (many years ago). I wonder if they've dug up some of the old material.

I could have a look and see what it's profile used to be.

Given that they already have the Manitcore and Harpies, I reckon they'll go for something without wings. I wonder if they'll try a lizard type beast to complement the Cold One's theme. Something like a Carnosaur would go down well, they could use the high toughness and strength.

I just hope it's something a bit different with some unique attributes.

Have you ever used Shadowblade in a game ?

I have yet to use Shadowblade, but I want to very bad. As soon as I've tried him out, I'll let you know how it went. I don't get a lot of time to battle unfortunately, but it's bound to happen sooner or later!

Only rumors I have heard are old ones. Next Dark Elf release will have a new chariot model which seems likely since the old one is out of production. And a Master on a Dark Pegasus. Can't confirm that yet. No idea when the release date will be. Most likely next year. Probably sometime after the second Daemon release.

My brother has used him I believe twice; the first time, against some Skinks, he won the first combat, killing a few...then was struck down by the Lizardman special spell Ruination of cities or something like that. The second time, he lost to a unit of...try not to laugh...Gnoblars and was run down and killed. Probably poor uses of him, but at the time they both seemed like the right move. So he has done a combined 60ish points in two games and been killed twice.

For some inexplicable reasopn Ken says he won't use Shadowblade again...

Steam, try using Mengil Manhides Manflayers. They are still metal, but look alot better as Shades.

I agree with the plastic Cold One Chariot kit. I would also like to see a Plastic Dark Pegasus model and Plastic Harpies. Hate the metal harpies with a passion.

As for dark riders. You can make them with a very simple conversion. I use Glade Rider box with Dark Elf Warrior Box and they look fantasic.
