Is it allowable to field a unit of standard heavy cavalry from the Dogs of War Army list or do they have to be one of the named units (actually I think the only cavalry unit, other than the skink cold one riders, is Mukhtar's Desert Dogs isn't it ?)

I have 2 Dogs of War lists. All of the named regiments of renown and a list for a standard Dogs of War army made up of core, special, rare etc DoW standard "unnamed" units. Can I use these unnamed units that make up DoW armies ?

I could use some fast movers for my next outing against Dark Elves, I need to seize a few objectives until my stumpy legged dwarven forces catch up :)

Thanks,
Sigmar

I think in the regular Dog of War rules it says that any DOW unit may be taken as a rare choice in a non DOW army, it's on the 4th page of the pdf I linked on another thread, towards the botton.

Sucks that it'll take up a rare choice for something so cheap, but then again, you'll be saving points.

Thanks Tizz, I'll check it out.

PS. I only have the 2 printed pdf Dogs of War army lists. Does GW actually do an up-to-date Dogs of War army book ? I know there used to be one around but I think it was for an older rules edition.

From what I've read on a couple other forums from people who went to some seminars it seems like GW is trying to make each army stand alone with no mixing armies available, so gone will be the days of the Dogs of War.

I'd better start using some of the units while I still can then :)

Trumpeter, call the cavalry...

Paymaster, you'd better go fetch the gold.

Yes, to answer your question.

In all friendly games, you can take a DoW unit as a rare choice (except Brets).

In competition play, DoW has been taken out of the allowed rulings, so if you want to field them then you have to either get permission from the Tournament Organizer or say "oh well"

It's probably a bit late (Yay for thread Necromancy!) but I believe you are better using Voland's Venators than the vanilla DoW heavy Cav. In the case for Light cav, it is probably a little in favour of the vanilla. I definately would not recomend the Oglah Khan's Wolfboyz (not that Dwarfs can take them) as they are very overpriced (and the magic item is almost completely useless).
