As many of you probably already know, I'm currently working on my Dwarf Army. I've come across a couple of issues I wanted to address before going too much further with them because one of my questions directly affects the way I am going to build a unit.
First (And by far the most important): Whats the best way to build a Ranger Regiment? At present I am planning to build a unit of 24 Quarrellers w/Great Weapons & Shields. I figure this will give them a nice ranged attack while still providing them with plenty of kick when they get into the thick of things.
Rangers can be very expensive, when you start to add upgrades and numbers to make them useful, they actually end up losing their usefulness. A unit which you suggest would be very expensive and easily to avoid. Unless you set them up with a clear shooting lane and 12 wide, you won't get much use of the crossbows. If you really want to use them, then I would suggest keeping them cheap. A small unit, to either march block if possible or be a small sacrificial unit to hold at least one unit up.
I've never been a fan of rangers this edition, the fact that they're a ranked unit that have no ability to move through terrain/woods goes against logic and all the fluff.
