Anyway, I was very upset to see skink short bows removed from the standard army list. They were even more awesome in the past than they are now because of the limitations of the Southlands list. I used to love making pin cushions out of my friend's bearded stunties

Yeah me too--that is where the bulk of my lizardman units came from, that brets vs lizardman boxed set of ages past--so I guess I am playing southlands for the time being. I like the older Slann model much better then the new one anyway.
In the few games I have used them since getting back into the game they seem to do just fine. I liked it better when you could throw in a krox along with a standard skink fighting column for extra hitting power and the ability to cause fear --now that was cool!! But I really like having 2 skink hero level characters for the price of one saurus character that the southlands army list allows. It lets you really dominate the magic phase in lower points cost games.
