Sigmar is dead on. I am primarily a Warriors player and the things that give me the most trouble are A) things that ignore armor saves, B) heavy shooting, C0 mobile armies and D) "big strength" strikes.
To face that, High Elf armies have A) Repeater Bolt Throwers. Find a hill if possible, shoot over his screen at his Knights, Dragon Ogres, Warriors...ignore the Marauders as you can handle them with your core line troops. B) Since even the Lothern Sea guard (if I recall correctly) can have bows with spears, they can shoot at those marauder screens, for example. Or even at the Knights. You only have to do 1-2 casualties against the heavily armored stuff to be really effective. You will probably hit better than 50%, wound 33%, and kill 18% even against Knights so it takes you approximately 33 shots to get a kill. Well worth all the frustrating times of "I hit you 20 times and did not even wound you once" when you get that inevitable "I only hit you 3 times, but 2 killed" turn. C) this one just takes practice to learn how to move your vital troops out of the way so you can flank charge, rear charge and so forth to remove his shield benefit. D) As Sigmar pointed out, Swordmasters are great. Always strike first with a -2 to Armor Save, if you can hold your enemy up in front and flank charge, now he will save on a 4+ with his Knights instead of a 2+ f you hit in front. That is your preferred tactic.
Best way to hold in front is some unit with decent numbers or strong saves who is stubborn.
Hope that helps.
