Flamers and Plasma pistols have very different roles. Flamers are good for torching stuff in cover as you negate their cover save (good against stuff like Orks, little nids, Eldar Guardians) while the Plasma is good against high toughness stuff or stuff with a big armour save (like terminators). So it depends on the role you see them fitting into as to what to equip them with.

Ughh... little late to stick my oars in..

So, on what has been said for the army that you want to buy, what they said.

SoK - What engineer said is right, plasma weaponry is for more high profile, tough targets. While flamers are for more sweeping up large number of weak infantries.

What are you going to be using the assault squad for? There's various usage for a single unit general purpose army like Space Marine. I'd honestly go for much cheaper option (aka, in this case, flamer) in my IG or Ork army to add in some more useful bitz or number. But in high cost Space Marine, I;m not sure if it's the case.

I suppose it's what you want to use the AM mainly for. Going up against high profiles like special characters, elites and maybe HQ (since you're adding in chaplains)

You know what to arm for each case. But don't squeeze your head over it, it's a simple choice that won't really control how entire game is played out.

(Also, please no veterans, unless you're buying them in a 5 man box. Buying 1 man blister is very, very... annoying. I'd rather suggest taking Sicarius with the normal terminator squad and a chaplain with assault mehreens)

P.P.S. - Don't say I didn't say, I have a bad feeling about Assault Termies. Also, arm the AT with lightnin' claws if you think you're going to be able to take the bloke out in first assault, otherwise, stick with thunder hammer and SS. Those very expensive unit can go down the drain, very very fast.

Thanks guys, this army is going to be a themed force rather then an all out slaying force,so I'm not worrying that much about effectiveness,on the other hand I would like it to be fairly combat effective :D

So does that make sense?

Tactically based Jungle force! Some armored support thrown in,heavily infantry based.

The parent chapter? Colour scheme? (Can be done at Bolter&Chainsword) Chapter background? Leaders?

(Feel free to take time coming up with those! It's one of those things that should not be hurried.)

Man, I actually look forward to this project of yours! Just creating an entirely new forces out of scratch really gets you attached to your characters, rather than taking the generic forces that are out there that already exists. Like Ultramarines or Cadians and etc.

If it's a jungle based force, I suspect there will be lots of flamers and snipers.

Thanks man I too am excited about this, painting them might be awhile after I get the models but I'll be doing some converting so it should be preety individualized.

As for your questions,The Raptors are a second founding chapter,Ravenguard,Primarch would be Corax who in my opioin got the bad end of stick out of the loyalist Primarchs (Rumors of cloning Marines after Istvaan V)Color schemes on the first page I'll post some background when I find it and as for Leaders there's a few named but enough room for variance.

Ah! So you're sticking with Raptors.

Good, good. If you need more info or advice, we're all on stand-by to help you.

Now... I'll be slinking off to try squeeze in some Executioners and Doom Eagles onto Space Marine.

Veteran Squad?

I didn't see anyone fielding them on the field, beside putting one or two stray model in Command Squad or replacing sergeant or even using them as Captain.

Neat, mate!

I actually want a Web Order Canada/Austrailia Exclusive Space Marine Sergeant... (You have to buy 100$ worth of stuff to get a single bloody model :x ) Can't decide!

Damn GW and their money making scheme!

I blame the Amerikaners! :)
