Right well I have a 2k point Space Marine army from the last Edition and seeing the Imperial Guuard they look really good and seem an army I would like, Anybody know what rules they will have and if they will be good?

THe new models do look ace, I'll be fighting off a mighty temptation to create a Catachan force. The new Orders system sounds good whereby you'll be able to give your squads orders that will affect how they perform in game.

If they will be "good" is a lot more subjective. I hear that tanks are getting cheaper so you'll be able to include more in the force (rumours abound of 3 Leman Russ for 1 Heavy Support choice) but they will still be Guardsmen with T3 and a Str3 main weapon with no AP. I've had my Orks walk right through an Imperial Guard gunline and then just rip them apart, even with Mortars making big dents in my squads, I can wipe out a whole guardsmen squad with 5 Orks left.

Guardsmen need solid tactics to win, your basic infantry is rubbish but you get bucketloads of them. You really need to plan in advance how you are going to deal with threats and then do it, sitting at the back and unleashing something akin to trying to blind the enemy with hi-beams (lasguns really are rubbish) doesn't work that well. You need a combined arms force and apply the vast amount of firepower you have exactly where it is needed at a given time. Stormtroopers are supposed to be getting Hellguns with AP3 which will certainly help out and I'm looking forward to seeing what the Primaris Psyker can do. You'll have a lot of men on the field but I can guarantee with the Guard that you will either win massively or get absolutely slaughtered, there will be no middle ground.

Well, I think something that will become effective against SM is the tanks.

The new Leman Russ only squadron, and attachign vehcile to platoon, cheaper tanks, possibly being able to fire all sponson weapon even after firing the battle cannon, more variety of tanks, versatile vehicles.

I'm all about the tanks, and I think tanks are one of the best way to beat SM (After all, S8 AP3, ain't gonna go down well with SM)
