I asked the question on my battle reports hub and having looked through over 100 reports now I think I can confidently say that this is probably the opinion of in the "Warhammer community".

I have not payed against them yet, although my friend is threatening to begin collecting Daemons so I might well do soon.

Has anyone else received a right royal thrashing at the hands of the Daemonic hordes ?

I've almost finished building my DoC force, but sadly it's switched from WHFB to 40k. I have a 1000pts battle at the weekend and am wondering whether to take them out for a spin or stick with the Orks.

I say go with the Daemons, they seem to be causing a bit of a stir in fantasy forums (hard to beat). I'm not sure if that's the same in the 40k world. Battle it out and let us know.

Chaos is brutal and the new lists just make it worse, although they have lost some abilities the new ones make up for it...

i agree they are a very difficult army to beat. like one of the staff members at my local gw says they are a setup, pull string and walk away army ie it plays itself

I've heard similar stories of the pull string mentality. Friends of mine have built hard hitting, super heavy toughness armies, walked across the board and taken people apart with little to no effort. I don't think they are unbeatable, but there is a certain amount of intimidation associated with the Daemons. Its easy to lose site of stratagey. The Warhammer Universe is completely set up around avoiding/killing/holding out against the Daemons that being able to control such terrifying monsters makes us resistance generals nervous. I've seen commanders freak out before the battle has even begun, making stupid and short placement decisions based on what lay across the board. Its genius game design if you ask me. Aenarion is still revered for a reason, lol.

I took my Daemons out for their first run today. I took a mono-Slaanesh list and ended up with a draw and I can tell you it is far from a pull string list. I can see how the typical Khorne/Tzeentch combos you see can easily become just that but there are ways to make challenging play if you don't just try and take the real "cream" out of the list.

For a first try my Daemons did massively better than I thought they would being mainly strength and toughness 3. Especially against Vampires who we all know are a decent army in themselves. If I just took a couple big units of Horrors and then maxed Bloodcrushers, Hounds and Bloodletters then there really isn't much to think about but there are players out there (like me) who don't want to play that way.

I'm glad there are some people who are still interested in the story of the army and build for creativity and a challenge than for sheer brutal slaughter. Well done!

played twoHE vs DoC battles.drew one, narrowly lost the other.seems the key is taking out the daemon prince early as poss.i reckon 2000pt DoC stategy is built around these beasties tearing round freakin out spearmen and targeting characters.once i managed to kill him, the other units were too pulled apart to be supportive of each other and thats half his magic gone.2 bolt throwers,10 bows and a noble with a reaver bow did for him-he can be hit from most of the field, bein so big.the coup de grace was an archmage on horse back(seerstaff, cleansing flare)charging into the centre of the field and the spell goin off.a gamble but how else can the squishier races expect to compete.however, its a lot of effort for one target;needs luck;limits other options and against a good general,i.e.one who doesnt allow his units to wander,is goin to result in bloodletters and plaguebearers stealin the day.i'm sure i'll play'em again soon.let you know how i get on

I took an all Nurgle army out Monday and got a solid victory. Never taken a Daemon Prince, I have used God appropriate Greater Daemons in my lists. I also haven't run an army based around a core of Horrors, nor do I plan too. There is far more to this army than just Khorne and Tzeentch although it's much easier to create a really broken list focussing on those two gods. I have a plan for a multi-god list that includes more Tzeentch and I may try out Horrors but I am not spending huge numbers of pounds on metal when there should have been a second wave already.

Bloodletters are regarded as the weakest of all Daemons by DoC players, the only real benefit they have is running small units and trying to take on heavy cavalry. I'd rather take Bloodcrushers though. I'll admit that they can be horrible depending on how the army is composed but they are far from unbeatable.
