Man, has it been a while since I've been on this site!
my vampire 2000 points list included 3 vampires with forbidden lore,
but I always thought level 1's could use 3 dice to cast, but I only recently discovered it was 2

.
so then I proceded to play the game by the rules

, but then my spells didn't go off as much infact the only spells I managed to cast were bears anger, and flaming sword of rhuin (which make vampires really tough when successfully cast)
everything else failed. I was so shocked, I didn't even pay attention to my army as it fell appart and then crumbled when my general was slain. I was shocked by the loss, but my opponent said "well you used vampires for magic rather than combat", "SO!" was my reply. "leave spells to necromancers and lords, use vampires for combat or nehek, to keep your army alive". I thought about this and decided to field an army where my vampires were combatants rather than wizards, although I'll still use a spell here and there, just so they don't die on me. but I'll make sure I don't have my heart set on a spell bigger than my 2 dice.
So I started to write up a combat army it's got 2 vampires with forbidden lore and flayed hauberk's, one has the lore of beasts (for the bears anger), and the other has lore of fire (for flaming sword of rhuin), both spells are easy to cast with 2 dice and will make them fierce combatants.
My lord has a dreadlance, and the accursed armour. he has the red fury, beguile and dread knight powers.
PRO'S: str 7 on charge, fast movement 2+ save, Toughness 6 his attacks automatically hit can reroll wounds most of the time and a possible 8 attacks in combat
CON'S: WS4: thats low for a lord level character, so enemies will find it easier to hit him, but his dreadlance wont make it difficult for him to hit them

,
Initiative 4: not very good for a vampire, but he still should be able to hit the enemies before he gets really hurt.
All in all this is a very tough lord, if tested him out and he's already slayed a stegadon with 1 charge.
I reccomend using him against lone character's or monsters, but with only 8 attacks max, I wouldn't use him against a large unit, 15+.
