Man, has it been a while since I've been on this site!

my vampire 2000 points list included 3 vampires with forbidden lore,
but I always thought level 1's could use 3 dice to cast, but I only recently discovered it was 2 .
so then I proceded to play the game by the rules :), but then my spells didn't go off as much infact the only spells I managed to cast were bears anger, and flaming sword of rhuin (which make vampires really tough when successfully cast)
everything else failed. I was so shocked, I didn't even pay attention to my army as it fell appart and then crumbled when my general was slain. I was shocked by the loss, but my opponent said "well you used vampires for magic rather than combat", "SO!" was my reply. "leave spells to necromancers and lords, use vampires for combat or nehek, to keep your army alive". I thought about this and decided to field an army where my vampires were combatants rather than wizards, although I'll still use a spell here and there, just so they don't die on me. but I'll make sure I don't have my heart set on a spell bigger than my 2 dice.

So I started to write up a combat army it's got 2 vampires with forbidden lore and flayed hauberk's, one has the lore of beasts (for the bears anger), and the other has lore of fire (for flaming sword of rhuin), both spells are easy to cast with 2 dice and will make them fierce combatants.

My lord has a dreadlance, and the accursed armour. he has the red fury, beguile and dread knight powers.

PRO'S: str 7 on charge, fast movement 2+ save, Toughness 6 his attacks automatically hit can reroll wounds most of the time and a possible 8 attacks in combat

CON'S: WS4: thats low for a lord level character, so enemies will find it easier to hit him, but his dreadlance wont make it difficult for him to hit them :D,

Initiative 4: not very good for a vampire, but he still should be able to hit the enemies before he gets really hurt.

All in all this is a very tough lord, if tested him out and he's already slayed a stegadon with 1 charge.

I reccomend using him against lone character's or monsters, but with only 8 attacks max, I wouldn't use him against a large unit, 15+.

thats not that bad for a lord like that, though i always tend to take characters as my lord choice. vlad is too good to resist.

i think vamps can get some magic something to boost magic abillity. why are you complaining about 2 of the best spells. but vamps should use their own lore really

Can you clarify if both Vampires have taken the Flayed Hauberk? If so, your army list is illegal as each magic item may only be taken once per army.

hmmm. a possible 5 attacks, can turn into 10 thanks to red fury, then multi wound models take 2 wounds instead of 1
reroll to hit, and he's supprisingly cheap.

It couldtake a while for him to get to combat because of the one bat short ofa belfry rule, hes only got heavy armour, so he wont last long vs a stand and shoot, unless he hid in a unit,

VS

my lord can get a possible 14 attacks in combat. how you ask?

well......

4 attacks + the bears anger = +2 str +3 attacks and + 1 toughness
combined with the dread lance, the accursed armour, red fury, and dread knight,

gives him M 8 ws(hit automatically) BS 5, S no longer str 7 on charge because he cant use a weapon with bears anger,
so instead he has str 7 all the time, T 7 : yea t5 normal accursed armour +1 and bears anger +1, w3, I 4, A 7 thanks to bears anger and if they all wound he gets another 7,.

so maybe I'll use konrad when I'm playing a 1,000 point game :P

Yea, but how many points is your dude and how many points is Konrad? :P You could easily get another Vampire in if you played Konrad instead of your Lord/Hero Vampire.

That is one scary Vamp! I would be like, "Wait 14 Str 7 Attacks? Hmmm, let me help you by removing my whole unit off the field for you mmk?" Nice build there man, I bet that is the best combatish build you can make with a vamp......Oh do you smell that? Da cookies are done! The cookies are done! You know what that means......

+1 Delicious cookie reputation for you!

thats assuming the bears anger goes off, which would probably be high on the dispel list when he is going to become engaged in combat.

hey guys,

Thanks for the reputation,

and informing me about the 1 item per army rule (I used to have all my heroes running around with the hauberk)

and for the info on how the enemies will try to dispell bears anger.

so, if you have any ideas on how to prevent it being dispelled e.g lots of bound spells or kill wizards fast, I'm all ears

thats exactly it. Have other spells that your opponent is going to want to dispel more than that one. For instance in my empire army i always want my Warrior priests unit to be unbreakable, so i take a wizard/s who gonna do some immenent damage eg lore of death, fire, metal, to make what seems like higher priorities for your opponent to dispel.

Consider maybe if you can acquire some lowering of their dispel dice, i don know if there is an item like that for VC, and yes bound spells that can cause serious damage, luring the opponent into using his dispel dice. pick aggressive ones, they generally soak up more dice.
