I'm not sure what the new lore will be called but I wouldn't mind betting it will be the Lore of Beasts or maybe Lore of the Herd or similar.

Anyway, back to the point.... what emphasis do you think the new magic will take ?

I reckon it will be used primarily to boost leadership / rallying, ambush abilities and possibly a couple of ranged magic effects.

I'm hoping for a decent movement spell, a solid magic missile D6 str 6 hits or something, a spell to control the enemies beasts, a bonus to ambush would be awesome, and a leadership (stubborn?) spell would be great

other then that there is pretty much one left, going on the usual 6 spells per school

Lore of Beastiality?

I'm guessing you'll get a magic missile of some sort alongside some "unit causes fear" spell. I think that could be interesting. Problem is though that there is already a Lore of Beasts but most armies have their own Lore to use. Might just be that Bray Shamans get a +1 bonus to cast spells from Lore of Beasts.

I think a "unit causes fear" is a waste of a spell, a great many of our units already cause fear

as you said there already is a lore of beasts (and it's actually very good for beastmen armies)

bray-shamans getting +1 to lore of beasts spells is a good idea

I think Thordoc could be right when he says...

"a spell to control the enemies beasts"

GW have already stated that it will be a new Lore so I don't think it will be the current Lore of Beasts with "tweaks".

There's bound to be an element of Chaos in there, so there should be some nasty ranged spell in there.

there is talk on warseer about the new spell list been called Lore of the dark forest, so perhaps some type of teleport between wood terrain features?

That could be cool, it could end up like the Lore of Athel Loren but hopefully won't suck as hard as that spell list does.

I can well believe it will be called Lore of the Dark Forest, it sounds about right.

I'm wondering what the key advantage could be for Beastmen in their own magic lore.

Here's my wish list:-

1) A beastmen rally/frenzy/stubborn spell to mitigate against the low leadership
2) Something to prevent enemy cavalry from entering woods for fear of the woods
3) A ward save spell for units
4) A ranged missile spell (longer than usual range or limitless)
5) Something to protect units against missile fire and magic

nice little wishlist

i'd be happy to see all of those in a spell list, a spell that adds +1 attack to a unit would be nice as well, even if it's not a remains in play spell, and needs to be cast into combat

Tep, you;re right Engineer, a frenzy spell would fit right in. Although I still prefer the idea of an army wide type of frenzy in the rules. Something about the more they win the more frenzied they come. I think we've spoken about it already in another topic.

How do you guys feel about having a powerful ranged spell ? Would you rather the Beastmen's lack of ranged abilities as an inherent Beastmen weakness that should be kept (maybe for fluff reasons) or would you like to see a powerful ranged effect included because it's a weakness too far ?

I was thinking that a ranged attack would be a nice inclusion to shore up a major weakness a little bit but I've now changed my mind. I'd rather see them boost the ambush and army wide rules in some way so Beastmen don;t have to take too much missile fire before combat begins.
