I had a flash of what may be genius tonight. I'm trying to finesse the list, and it feels like I'm onto something, but I'm not quite where I want to be.... the general idea is to take the Grail Reliqaue, and stick a damsel, and an Empathy'ed Paladin BSB with the Banner of the Lady in it.

You'd be looking at a unit generally thought of as charge bait. An anvil the Bretonian player wants you to get stuck in on. Only with the Damsel and the BSB, you'd run into a big block of Haterating Stubborn Ld 8 Peasants, and a Paladin BSB that negates enemy rank bonuses, and would have something like 6 St6 attacks, assuming I can get the Bear's anger off on him... with a Truthsayer helping out, I think it's got a decent shot.

at 2250 its basic lay out is:

Duellist Lord to Lead the Grail Knights.

Paladin BSB on foot to join the reliqae.

Another Grail Vow'ed Paladin to join the Lord in the Grail Knights

A damsel- not sure if she'll be mounted for an armor save, or on foot.

Truthsayer to cast delicious spells, and hopefully pull dispel dice to get Bear's anger off.

9 Knights of the Realm, full command

9 Knights Errant, full command

20 skirmishing flaming bowmen

25ish strong Grail Reliqaue

3 Pegasus Knights

7 Grail Knights with full command.

That might be a way to use the GR. I will have to pull out my book and check to see if archers skirmishers can use the flaming pots. Or did you mean something else entirely.

I'm already almost entirely sure they can take the braziers. I was just looking for feedback on a paladin in the unit- I've got a few different ideas so far...

Either using the BSB with the Banner of the Lady...

He can charge out, The Reliaque can move up on its own during the remaining moves, and the BSB just has to hold out for two rounds (One full turn) before the Reliquae can charge in on its own.

Or put a paladin on foot wtih the virtue of Empathy for some combat punch- AND providing a chance to use the Ruby Goblet on them- thus making them never wounded on 2's either, enhancing their defensive capabilities.

Or leave him mounted, and give him the virtue that lets his unit reroll break tests, essentially giving them a second BSB in that respect.

Truthsayer? Like a merc wizard? If so Bret's can't take mercs.

He is a Dog of War. But Brets can take him, his counterpart the Dark Emissary, and the Dogs of War unit Gotrek and Felix. Those are the only DoW units they can take as they specifically allow Brets in their description, over-riding the Bret Army book restriction.

And yeah, the Truthsayer is an amazingly big add for the Bret list in my group. A level 3 with a dispel staff is nice enough... add in his spells to make his three power dice effective at pulling opposition dispel dice- I mean half the time you get a spell that's basically a one model Army Wide Invo of Nehek. When you're taking about 20+ point knight models that adds up quickly. Also effective with MSU units like Mounted Yeomen and Pegasus Knights.

I've been playing Brets long enough, chances are you're not going to find an illegal choice in my list. So perhaps you could move on to the theoryhammer aspects I was asking about... i.e. leave him mounted? BSB with banner of the lady to play speed bump until the GR can get the charge off? Mounted with the second BSB reroll effect? On foot with the Ruby Goblet to make it take even longer to whittle them down?
