Ok, since my last Tournament they have raised the points to 1000. So here is my list (Remember I like my gunpowder and bowstrings):

1x Cannon w/ RO Forging, RO Burning, and Engineer 150pts
1x Dwarf Thane w/ RO Fortitude, RO Stone, and Grudge Rune (HW+Shield) 142pts
10x Thunderers, FC. 165pts
16x Quarrellers, Shields, FC 217pts
30x Warriors, FC (HW+Shields) 320pts

It all comes up to 999 points.

OR

1x Cannon w/ RO Forging, RO Burning, and Engineer 150pts
1x Cannon w/ RO Immolation 120pts
1x Dwarf Thane w/ RO Forititude, RO Stone, and Grudge Rune (HW+Shield) 142pts
20x Quarrellers, Sheilds, FC 265pts
30x Warriors, FC (HW+Shields) 320pts

This list comes up to 997 points.

So, which one should I take?

P.S. Sig or Moderator. I just noticed this should be in the Army lists section. My bad, proves me I shouldn't be posting late at night

My experience is no command for shooters, it's never been worth the points in games I've played.
Maybe add four more Quarrellers and break them into two units.
Ditch the Cannon and find 10 points and put the Hewer in the army of you can. Cannons are great for character picking and monsters but the hewer reduces ranks like crazy.

Just some thoughts

Cant take a single unit of Longbeards unless you are playing 2000+ pts and have a Lord, have to have 1 unit of Warriors for each unit of LB you field. This said Warriors are cheaper so at 1000pts why not try: 2 units of 20 with FC and Shields = 205pts each, or a single unit of 30 with FC, Shields at 295 which is going to save you 53pts to put on something else.

If you really want Longbeard type units then as you have met the core requirement why not take Hammerers instead, same pt cost for Stubborn + same characteristics.

Give your Q & T musicians only + shields if you are going to take 2 units, but at 1000pts I generally only take 1 and put the rest of my pts into warriors

RO Burning on Cannon is kind of redundant unless you except to face people with regen, give it an engineer though

Thane is cool interesting combos there; personally though he is light on offensive runes needs RO Fury/Cleaving or if you only want to spend a few pts try RO Might will give him S4 vs. T4 or less, and S8 vs. T5 or higher. RO Furnace is also needed to protect against Lore of Metal sniping.

Other than that looks cool, if you can save any points with the above ideas maybe stick in a small unit of Warriors

@Bilbo

1.Yes, I've been told that many times but if I trim them then I can't do anything with the points I trimmed.

2.No proxies allowed unless it looks almost exactly like the unit. The store and I do not have any dwarf models with crossbows.

3.That would be awsome! If only I had a Hewer.

@Kiwi

1. Ahh, forgot about that dang.

2. The store and I together wouldn't have enough Hammerer models painted to make a formiddable unit.

3. I plan on facing Nurgle Deamons and Tomb Kings as 2 of the armies, so yes Flammable and Regen vs. Flaming is good.

4. The thane is outfitted for killing the enemies General which mean extra points for me.

Ok, question:

Should I keep my thunderers? Or, make a Cannon w/ RO Immolation to make a time bomb? Taking off the Thunderers would also allow me to put an Engineer on the Cannon that wont explode 2nd turn.

MR Immolation is fun to use but expensive and it only does 2D6 S4 hits so has to be used wisely. If you want to be really sneaky put a Master Engineer with a MR Challenge with it (instead of the Engineer Champion) and force the nastiest enemy unit to charge you. That and a Master Engineer means the cannon does D6 not D3 wounds

What would that do except kill your cannon and crew? I didn't know cannons can react by Stand & Shoot.

Cannon with stand and shoot, that would be very funny.

Because with a ME your cannon becomes entrenched. You stick the cannon in front of your biggest infantry unit and General. Enemy charges it either stuck against a stubborn enemy, or they get blown up and injured.

Then because they are entrenched GW FAQ make it clear that the enemy unit CANNOT overrun them. Meaning after your warmachine is killed you can charge next turn.

But with a cannon + a Master Engineer with RO Challenge that would come out to 185 points which, in my opinion, isn't a very good deal in a tournament. I think I'm going to stick with my time bomb just for grins & giggles. Anyway, I'm gunna slash them to bits so why bother with elaborate handguns when you can make a simple bomb?

Yeah I know mate buts its a fun technique to use in bigger games.

Honestly if you want good value points wise in a 1000pt tournament I ALWAYS ALWAYS take an Organ Gun never a Cannon.

If you dont like OG then take 2 BT instead

This isn't really a serious tourney though. I know all the people who come in to play in the shop so it's really more for fun. Ya, I want to win, but I still want it to be fun. My Cannon Bomb lets that happen, I can kill a decent amount of people with it (I can always shoot with it before it explodes), and it fufills my fun side.

i have to agree with Kiwi, drop a cannon and take an organ gun. Whats better than a cannon with one barrel?... one with five barrels. Once you go organ you dont go back. Um i think you get the point.

So, I can keep my cannon bomb, but have to take the regular cannon off? That sounds good to me! But, my ever-thinking mind may change back to my original plan, or the Cannon Bomb plan, or some strange scheme.
