I was flicking through the TK book and it really is in need of an update. I had the Warriors of Chaos in front of me too so decided to compare the pair of them from a Lord/Hero perspective. The most staggering difference, TK has 2 special characters and WoC has 9 !

WoC also has 11 more magic items, plus the Gift of the Gods and the Eye of the Gods table.

I need to go into more detail with regards to the power/usefulness/points cost of magic items but on the face of it the WoC seem to have a LOT more options available to them when it comes to characters.

It is already widely known that Tk is actually the army that is in most need of being updated, BIG TIME!

You can say that again.

However, I have found they are performing quite well in the battle reports I have scheduled. That might just be the report writers reporting on their success though. People seem less likely to write battle reports when they lose :)

right now I think Settra and Khalida cover the two major aspects of most TK armies atm.

As far as the lack of TK reports go i'll be doing a lot of that as i need to be able to look over my games and make amends to strategies as there is a diverse army layout among the players in our store.

me time to draw them up. but when i get a

Look closer. Settra is a big double edged sword- like The Bret king I can't for the life of me remember the name of right now... Geez that's going to drive me nuts... Setra is 3K or more required. What's-his-name. Leoun! That's it. Leoun Leouncour is so expensive, and moves cheap core troops to special slots- thus effectively making him 3K+. Brets have 3 special characters, all lord level. That was the style in 6th. Hero Hammer's Edition caused a backlack that is slacking off to somewhere in the middle right now- much like 2nd Ed 40K to now. All of the new books have a lot more special characters at both lord level, and hero level. Likewise, very very few of those special characters are automatic selections- choices you can't make better, or comparable for cheaper using the basic list.

The real problem with TK that shows it's age is the magic phase. TK don't have enough bound items that will pull dispell dice. They give up two power dice that flat can't be used in their incantations. Between the range restrictions on incantions, the power level, and the fact that all too often, an opposing player will have as many dispel dice as you have incantion dice for incantions - S/HE ACTUALLY CARES ENOUGH TO DISPELL- their magic phase is up a creek with a crocodile for a paddle. The reason I say cares enough to dispel- because of the range, and a few other limitations on the Incantations, its exceptionally difficult to make each incantation one the player is worried enough to use dispel dice on. You can't raise more than starting unit size. Most incantions are limited to 18 inches or less meaning any pesky liche priest is relatively charge-able if they do get too scary.

Like a professional baseball player sitting on a pitcher's fastball, its a no brainer, and a game changer that an opposing player can sit on the two-ish incantions that a TK player absolutely must get off per turn- usually one movement spell, and one shooting/combat spell- and thus have as many if not more dispel dice than the TK player is throwing at his incantations.
