Well, I just used the idea on my first dwarf guy and my god!!!
I am going to be doing this every time I paint a guy... Its great, check it out!

First I just used a craft knife to cut out the square (use the base, upside down as a template) Make sure you also do very light cuts, dont push too hard as you may tear the paper instead of cutting it, so multiple LIGHT cuts!

And below is the template I used for my bases. The size fits a A4 sheet, dont worry if you use margins on the printout it will still work and look great :D Feel free to use it! Just right click and save.
