This is my first post on this site, other then the introduction.
so HAII! :D

Here's a question for you:

If someone charges a marching unit, do the other group strike back the first round, without their normal weapons (i.e: with hand weapons only)?
Or do they not get to strike back at all..

Here's 2 quotes from the 7th book about marching:
"A unit that is on the march is not prepared for combat so marching is not suitable for a unit that is close to the enemy.
In reality, no troops would approach the enemy without their weapons ready."
"Marching troops move at twice their normal Movement rate, with weapons sheathed or shouldered. They are literally 'going at the double'."

if its true they get to strike back, with no weapons. do they still use their shield? in reality it should be sheathed aswell.

Thank you!

Yes, the unit being charged gets it's attacks back. After they finish their march move they pull out their weapons and shields. The reasoning for those quotes were about march blocking (enemy unit within 8 inches and Dwarfs are always able to march).

They get their attacks with all weapons available and to get to use shields for handweapon/shield Armour Save Bonus.

Further on, I came onto another problem today.. where I wanted to charge a fleeing unit one turn after pursuing (without catching up).
I wasn't sure, if the unit gets destroyed or what happens..
thanks

I don't think you can charge while pursuing, but you may if the enemy unit(s) fled off the table, also getting a free reform in any direction. Correct me if I'm wrong I don't have my rulebook handy.

You can charge a fleeing unit. The unit auto flees and if their flee movement (distance to unit + 2D6) is less than your charge rate they are destroyed and you move full charge distance, if more they get away and you have a failed charge and only go movement rate.
