I don't use GS very often(almost never)..... what's the best use for it? haw is the best way to work with it?
I'd like to use GS more but am unsure as to the best way to use it. any tips or advise would be greatly appreciated.
I ask this because I've been putting off working on my ST because it warped or something and when I put it together, there are little gaps and what not where joints didn't quit line up or meet.

Some people are good enough to make entire models out of it. But mostly, it is used to make minor modifications and filling gaps.

I've actually only used it the one time (I've used other kinds of modeling clay with mixed results before this). This model was made from a skink with Green Stuff to create the eyes and tail.

I use it to fill gaps, add details such as hair, armor, helmets, bags and sacks; and for making sculpted base inserts such as these flagstone display bases http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_OegChr5Zg_s/SgC6DybLbRI/AAAAAAAABgo/cBalL2_5UdE/s1600-h/How+to+do+flagstones.jpgg

Best use for it? I'd say filling gaps is the easiest use for it- maybe sculpting entire figs is the best use :)
I taught myself how to use it. When you work with it (see: When I've worked with it), LIGHTLY coat your tools with a tiny bit of kitchen oil (I use olive.) This will keep your tools from sticking to the GS. If you have a random, clean-shaven mini sitting around, throw some GS on his face, get a sewing needle, coat it with oil and sculpt a beard. It takes a little getting use to (imagine trying to sculpt with chewing gum), but after you get that first beard done, all kinds of possibilities open up for you.

Love that skink by the way!

Cool Skink.
I've used it on.... maybe three projects. I just had a cup of water close and dipped my tool.
I think filling gaps is a good thing, I started to do that with my ST until I realized that I hadn't glued it right so I had to take a couple pieces off and re-glue it. I'd like to make female models using GS but I'm not yet confident in my skills yet.
sculpting chewing gum, actually that might be a good test material....

um, the link says: error 404 not found.

oops- forgot to URL it- Try it now

If you're looking to practice sculpting, try some Super Sculpey. This stuff is fantastic to work with. VERY easy. It's not a good gap filler, and you can't make castings with it. Otherwise, you can make one-off figures, as well as any of the details you can with the GS.

cool link, thanks evilcartoonist.
if I can find some Super Sculpey maybe I get some, I just bought some play-dough from my local dollarama.
I got four colors of I try different things, and the best part is when I'm done I can put it back in the tub again for another time.

If you're going to practice sculpting, then my best tip to you is good tools! Get some clay shapers with rubber heads, they don't stick to greenstuff, and lets you smooth out any fingerprints or uneven surfaces. I've also found them great when sculpting cloth, as it's much easier to get realistic ripples and folds with a rubbertool, than any steel-device. I use GW's Citadel Sculpting tool when I want to make sharp edges, like armour etc (tip here is to go over the surface repeatedly, as GS returns to a round'ish shape if you don't repeat and repeat..)

I bought my rubber sculpting tools at a hobby centre (Panduro hobby, not sure if it is only a Scandinavian store..?)
Anyways " http://www.dickblick.com/products/colour-shapers-tools " shows what you should look for, I got an "Angle-", "Taper-" and "Flat shaper" myself, and I'm very happy with them, especially flat and taper - use them as good as every time I do any GS work.

Best of luck with it!

Really, Hobby Town USA has some? Too bad that's like 20 minutes away from me, and my mom doesn't want to "waste gas". *sigh* Guess I will have to pay for some overpriced greenstuff from GW.

Yeah, Hobby Town USA has it with their paints, brushes and other GW hobby supplies.

I'd check ebay or one of the following links if you want to find it a little cheaper than GW will sell it:

frpgames.com/new/cart.php?m=search&s=Green+Stuff

chaosorc.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Green+Stuff&osCsid=852360a9f40ca312c1f7d78d3cafb040

Hope that helps!
