I've heard lots of rumors about this codex, including the infamously forewarned "skimmer nerf."

Another rumor that I put alot of credibility into is that they will be making 1 single damage table for hurting vehicles, with pluses or minuses depending on what kind of hit you get (glancing, penetrating, etc.)

I just read the article in this month's White Dwarf about LoS in 5th ed. I must say I think this is an extremely bad move on GW's part, and I think I will continue to use the old rules for LoS.

For those of you who don't know, they are doing away with area terrain. Now LoS is 100% determined by actual model LoS. Here are some problems with this.

1. According to the 40k rules, models do not actually represent only one model but several, however terrain is now supposed to represent exactly what it looks like? This is completely inconsistent.

2. It will now be impossible to model terrain that would completely block LoS and still be able to physically move models through it.

3. The game is going to slow down big time, especially in tournaments. Now players are going to be checking LoS for every single model as they move it to make sure they either have targets or they are not the target.

4. The old system worked great. The rules are an abstraction, and area terrain fit in well with that idea. I don't think anyone's game was less imaginative (this was implied in the article) because a group of trees that you could "actually" see through, blocked LoS. Everyone I know understood that any forest area is thick with overgrowth. The same applies to all forms of terrain.

I can't understand the changes to this rule at all. As far as I can see, the only reason for GW to do this is to sell "awesome" LoS checking laser pointers!

I havn't read the rule yet, but I read a battle report using the new rules and apparently 90% of your models will get some sort of cover save. I think in tournament play this is going to cause a serious problem as players will have lots of arguments over it.

Until I get the new rulebook I'm going to pass too much judgment, there just isn't anything to do until then.

LOS - sob -
Were things not working in 4th edition?
There pretty much need to be two versions of this game. 1 for fun and 1 for beards.
I'm sick of reading in WD about "playing the game for fun" then rocking up to a friends place and he's got 3 wraithlords 20 wraithguard and more flying tanks than you can throw a Warhound at.
I remember having arguments about miniatures who arent in cover (cause he can draw LOS to someone's helmet) at that exact moment by saying "it represents them this turn, they are moving through this jungle, thats why they get cover saves."

Well apparently they are making it all "true LOS" which means that most times your character/models are gonna get a cover save. It's gonna change the gameplay alot and slow down games alot, particularly at the tournament level.

I think LOS has some BS side and good sides to it... One of it being slowing things down..... But for my Kult of Speed, it's not going to matter much, because we go fasta!
