As many of you probably already know, I'm currently working on my Dwarf Army. I've come across a couple of issues I wanted to address before going too much further with them because one of my questions directly affects the way I am going to build a unit.

First (And by far the most important): Whats the best way to build a Ranger Regiment? At present I am planning to build a unit of 24 Quarrellers w/Great Weapons & Shields. I figure this will give them a nice ranged attack while still providing them with plenty of kick when they get into the thick of things.

Rangers can be very expensive, when you start to add upgrades and numbers to make them useful, they actually end up losing their usefulness. A unit which you suggest would be very expensive and easily to avoid. Unless you set them up with a clear shooting lane and 12 wide, you won't get much use of the crossbows. If you really want to use them, then I would suggest keeping them cheap. A small unit, to either march block if possible or be a small sacrificial unit to hold at least one unit up.

I've never been a fan of rangers this edition, the fact that they're a ranked unit that have no ability to move through terrain/woods goes against logic and all the fluff.

I agree with Kuffy on Rangers once they removed the old woodsmen ability they become pretty redundant. Although you can be sneaky with them if you want to try something REALLY CHEESY in a 2000+pt game

Take a Runelord with an Anvil of Doom, a BSB with Strollaz and a tool up killer Thane with RO Brotherhood & an OathStone and then put that Thane into a unit of 50 Longbeard Rangers with GW, FC, RO Stoicism, RO Battle & Throwing axes. Deploy that unit 12" across the table, 10 models wide and 5 deep. Before Turn 1 Strollaz them across another 6" - then if you when the toss charge 6" or march 6" and you have a US102 MR1 CR7 unit with no flanks or rear right in the enemy deployment zone in Turn 1.

If the enemy has deployed right on the edge of the zone you can even get a charge in - if you move 2nd, then you will be 6" away meaning you can use your throwing axes to stand and shoot. Its costly in terms of points but could be fun

Gotta be careful in measurement because BSB with Strollaz has a 12 inch range of effect.
