Alright with the release of the new Skaven army I'm going to start a new Skaven army themed around the Plague Monks of Lustria, after checking out some rumors about the probable course for the Skaven army book.

I'm going for a lowish model count (For Skaven)army

This is what I'm thinking for army composition.

Lord Skroll Allows Plague Monks to be taken as core, rumored to be extremely expensive (good for me) Like the model to.
Hangs in one Plague Monk unit.
Image

Plague Priest on Plague Furnace,Goes in the other Plague Monk unit, this is the main combat unit.
Image

Warlord (or whatever the vanilla hero choice is) BSB,joins either Clan Rats or Stormvermin.
I'll use this model and chop off one of his hands and slap a suitable banner to it.
Image

Core
2-25 man Plague Monk units, one with the Plague Furnace the other with Lord Skroll, these will act as my main assault units in an army of assault units.
Image

20 man Clanrat unit Spears and shields, nice and cheap might be joined by the BSB.
Image

20 man Stormvermin unit,Halberds and all the fixins, these unit is to act as another assault unit.
Image

A couple Rat Swarms I should be able to make severl and buy a couple.
Image

Maybe some giant rats.

Special

One or two units of Plague Censor Bearers, just for that extra killiness.
Image

2-4 Rat Ogres,I know they don't fit the theme but they would work very well with the rest of the army.
Image

At least one unit of Globadiers
Image

Rare nothing really interests me here so let's skip to the next part, unless the Plagueclaw Catapult is down there and then I'll wait for a model for it.

Total money cost for this army, let's break it down.
Lord Skroll $15
Plague Furnace $57.50 (abit expensive but well worth it and there would be all the extra bits from not building Screaming Bell :o )
Warlord BSB $15 (with abit of converting)
Stormvermin $49.50 (abit surprised by there cost, hopefully the models will help me with my sticker shock)
Clanrats $33
Plague Monks $35 each I'm going to need at least 2 so $70
Rat Ogres $40 (but I get the stuff to make some giant rats so not all bad)
Plague Censor Bearers 4 for $13.25 (not bad I can do that once or twice without breaking the bank)
Poisin Wind Globadiers 3 for $9 (I'm most likely only going to need about ten)
Rat Swarms 2 for $17 (I'll buy one set and build a few of my own.)

So a total of $393 give or take abit and figuring that they'll release a Battalion with at least some of the stuff on my list will lower the cost significantly, what I'll most likely do is buy them in $100 batches so that I don't blow everything all at once.

EDIT: Holy crud, two ranks within a month! Awsome! Major rank yay!

I find it fascinating how Games Workshop are able to draw us in and tempt us with new armies when they release updates. Skaven have largely been ignored, certainly for the last year or so, and now I'm hearing that everyone wants a new Skaven army :-)

I just read Skavenslayer and the new Doomwheel and Screaming Bell figures just look awesome. If I didn't have so many unpainted figures already, I'd buy them straight away.

SoK, I can't really comment because, believe it or not, I've never actualy played as or against (!) skaven. The way I understood things was that most skaven armies go heavy on miniatures for lots of rank and file bonus and outnumbering. It'll be interestingt o see how your plan works out.

Torx,

I know what you mean about the new army sets. Every time one is released I have to remind myself that I already have enough miniatures and I'm supposed to be painting up my Nautican army !

Skaven have never appealed to me that much - too flee ridden ;) but I do like the idea of all those gadgets and war machines.

In my defence I've been meaning to start a Skaven army for awhile I've just skipped out on them for various other things (Empire,High Elves Some Dwarfs and a small foray into DOW)

Also after looking around on the dreaded Warseer,I've found this type of list will be classified as cheesy, good thing I play Lizardmen and my own armies (for those friends who want to try something new)

Also any ideas on how to paint this divine force of Plague giving,I'm completely lost although I'd like the robes to be more of the Plague Monks then Lord Skroll color wise, thoughts?

No hadn't thought of it that way, nice one though Sever.

This is what I mean someone on The Underempire posted this as what is thought to be the super list for this edition of skaven

skrolk
Priest lvl 2 with furnace
priest lvl 2 with furnace
priest lvl 2 with furnace

25 plague monks with command
25 plague monks with command
25 plague monks with command

10 censer bearers with festering chantor
10 censer bearers with festering chantor

Now mind you its a one trick pony but it would do some heavy damage.

Here's a summary of what a Plague Furnace is from Warseer.
Plague Furnace (Plague Priest)
- made from same kit as the Screaming Bell
- noticeably cheaper than the Screaming Bell
- Frenzied
- the Plague Monk crew have 6 attacks in total
- also pushed into battle, also causing impact hits, also making the unit Unbreakable
- has a breath weapon which is placed with the wide end facing the Furnace. Models touched must pass Toughness tests or lose a wound
- in combat, each unit in contact with it must take D6 Toughness tests, losing one Wound for each test failed, this stacks with plague censer bearers
- the giant censer thing can be swung as a weapon in combat, causing an Artillery Dice worth of Strength 5 hits (with a special mishap chart)
- was rumoured to give a bonus to units around it (poison or frenzy, details unknown), while Pestilence units nearby would get further bonuses (Hatred or Stubborn, details unknown) but newer rumours have not mentioned this

Reading up on as much background as I can.

If anyone is interested these books are what I'm using for background sources,Skaven Slayer (second book in the Gotrek and Felix omnibus),Children of the Horned Rat (so awesome) Lizardmen,Skaven,Dwarf and Empire army books for extra background material and browsing through the Underempire forum for anything from them.

while you might have found out about this beforehand-they do actually have a Warlord model that has a banner already-I have 1 that I use as my Chieftain so I dont have to model the BSB onto it-just hoping that helps you-Btw it definitly looks to be a good list-but I would still invest in some shooter models like Jezzails or Globadiers - their cheaper than most other guys and that would help you if you do encounter stuff like spider riders or maybe even one of the new types of Weapon Teams that travel around with you and have the option to break away from their parent unit whenever you want them too-hope that helps you out.

Upgraded the Stormvermin and Clanrat pics.

Also have been thinking (so painful),I'll add some Rat Swarms and either Globadiers or weapon teams attached to the Clanrat unit.

Also after speaking with Caveman extensively,I've decided to use a system of one skirmishing unit for every major infantry combat unit, this role will be filled by Plague Censors and Globadiers.
