The issues that Beasts of Chaos have with ever increasing numbers of high toughness and terror causing enemies was pointed out by LD&P in the Beast of Chaos Weaknesses thread.

I thought this question merited a discussion on it's own. So... what can Beasts of Chaos do to counteract high toughness enemies and how can the Beastmen reduce the impact of Terror and Fear causing enemies ?

that is a tough one, the most obvious answer is to take a doombul led minotaur army. but that's not a realistic choice to be honest.

another choice is to overpower them with magic, a tzeentch army can get an insane amount of spell dice, or a slaanesh magic onslaught can lead their units on a merry dance (plus mark of slaanesh give immune to psych)

one interesting magic talisman is the

"rune of the true beast"
Ridden monsters, lone monster, steeds pulling chariots, cavalry monts and swarms may never diret thier attacks agaisnt the weilder

for 30pts can make the points spent on a dragon wasted

of course you have to get into combat agaisnt it, which in never easy

"Rune of the true beast" is probably another important magic item, esp for tournaments where, I understand, there are lots of hydras, varghulfs and dragon mounted characters these days.

So, can I take it that you just have to scrap away at a dragon with multiple units and hope for a combat res victory over it ?

Dragon Ogres and Minotaurs are both Leadership 8 and cause fear, so they won't be at too much of a disadvantage against Terror units. Apart from that, counter terror with terror - Dragon Ogre Shaggoth and Giants. Oh, and Spawns of Chaos are Leadership 10. Turn them into Fiends of Slaanesh and just charge them at your opponents terror units on 3d6, or leave them plain or make them Khorne Bloodbeasts for that extra strength.

Nice Sapwn of Chaos tip there Smack. Do you tend to employ Spawn units in your army ? I have pretty much overlooked them so far when drawing up draft armies.

Definately intend to. High toughness, high wounds and unbreakable make for some awesome tactical options. Though no real armour save.... :(
