I just got my mag today so I'll try to get a content review up onto my blog tomorrow. I would do it tonight but it took me so long to get Batpadre's last report onto the Battle Hub that I've had enough blogging for today :)

Anyway, a couple of things:-

1) Good looking battle report : Skaven vs the other dirty underworld crew ;) (Dwarf stunties)

2) I didn't realise there were so many Warhammer Battalions out now ! It looks like the only ones missing are Daemons and Beasts of Chaos. The boxed sets look pretty good, nice choice of units and they're about 30% cheaper than buying the individual units.

3) The quality fo the new Skaven units is excellent, especially the Screaming Bell / Plague Furnace. The Doomwheel is ok but the more I look at it the more it looks like a 40k fan designed it :(

4) The clanrats have a lot of weapon, body and shield options. There are 20 different bodies (although most of them are very similar), 20 spear options (nice variety), 20 hand weapon options (2 of which look a bit like Wolverine's claws !) and 20 shields. A great overall package really.

Like I said I'll try to update my blog tomorrow (if not then Friday) with some pics and a full contents review. I'm all blogged/forumed out for tonight so catch you tomorrow.

Sigmar

I'm not sure I like the new clanrat models all that much... I know a lot of people love them, but to me they are merely ok.

As for the mag, still reading it myself. The Skaven 'Design Notes' was a little disappointing, not really offering any great insights.

Have also had a look at the Storm Vermin sprue, and althougfh I do not care much for pricing and such, I believe it to be a total rip off: For starters: you get just as much models as in the clanrat box (20), but you pay a ^%$#^% more (here in Europe: E 26 for clanrats, E 39 for SV). Besides that, after assembling the SV, there are NO (!!!) spare parts whatsoever! While you get tons from the clanrats.
But then again: the models are AWESOME!

I looOOOoove the doomwheel, and will probably be ordering a second one just for bits and parts. :D

After I read the battle report in the WD, onething sprung to my mind:
In the current (soon to be old) edition, by far the best unit one could make was a Storm Vermin unit with Warbanner, add a BSB with either Banner of Fear of Banner o/t Swarm, and even add a Grey Seer on Bell. One helluva unit there.
Now, in the new edition, I believe the master unit will be a HUGE unit of plague monks with a Plague Furnace, possibly add the Banner of ??? - which makes the unit TRIPLE their movement when marching. Use that unit to quickly advance to your enemies units, and then tie them up the rest of the game, as the Furnace makes them unbreakable! How long will YOU take to get rid of 50 monks???

The Grey Seer has visibly been DOWNGRADED though - no really fun or cool items you can give him, the Bell has lost a lot of it's perks too.
I think I will be playing Queek Headtaker a lot and play warclans mostly...probably a lot of Skryre too.

Eternalknight, I'm not that keen on the clanrats either. They don't look dynamic enough for me. I imagine the ratties scurrying quickly across the battlefield, the clanrats look a bit too static.

Dims, re the prices: if anyone played me and wnated to use clanrats as storm vermin, that would be find by me. I know what you're saying though, the storm vermin are much nicer models but you have to pay through the nose for the pleasure :(

Biggest problem I had with this months White Dwarf (I don't buy it every month) is that there were as many pages related to Space Marines as there were to Skaven. Space Marines had their month last month with the Space Wolves release so let fantasy have some lime light for pity's sake... I did enjoy the Skaven stuff (picked up my book today) but was disappointed at how little there was considering this was their release issue.

Might go and pick a White Dwarf up today, who knows.

To Dims, I believe the furnace has no Armour/Ward Save or Regeneration? Albeit, its toughness 6 I think? It can easily be taken down by a heavy load of shooting with 6s to wound and take a wound off too.

Smack: true, but it would takke yur entire gunline probablly two turns to do so. In the third turn, they WILL be on you, Furnace or not, and then you look over that unit and see all those OTHER units you forgot to shoot at as well....!

There's a fantastic tutorial on paiting white, done on a White Scar Space Marine. Also how to paint Skaven - also pretty good. And lastly some LotR Easterlings being painted, but I found that one pretty bad painting.
