With my new Dark Elves coming this might mean that I can finish something.

Hi folks,

I don't want to sound too strict about this but so it's a level playing field and fair for everyone, ie. we all have the same amount of time and we're all starting with a "blank canvas", please only enter miniature pics of unpainted models. I presume everyone must have a few unpainted miniatures (I have thousands !)

There are 8 weeks to go so you should have plenty of time. You can post your "unpainted pics" anytime up to, let's say, a week before the deadline.

I'll post the official painting competition #2 topic sometime on Saturday (7th Nov 09) and you can add your miniature pics to that.

If you're taking your photos now, make sure you add a piece of paper next to the miniature saying something like "Battle Reporter forum painting comp #2"

If you can strip the model(s) down to bare metal/plastic then take your pic, there shouldnt be a problem.

You should be able to go to any hardware store and pick something up. Just ask someone in the paint department and tell them what you want to do. They should be able to hook you up with something that will work.

Did you know Washing (soap) Powder works exceptionally well? If you get a bowl of hot water and add washing powder to mix it up and leave your minis to sit overnight in the morning you can scrub the paint off with a scrubbing brush. It's something that you're bound to have in the house and works pretty much as well as anything you'd go and buy (better sometimes because some chemicals are very harsh on our minis). You might need to work the paint out of some cracks and hard to reach areas but this can be done easily enough with a hobby knife.
I strip all my models with Surf washing powder :) Be sure to give the minis a good rinse after though, as the soap powder leaves a residue otherwise.
