I have had the most consistant luck with an organ gun. I like the grudge thrower a lot as well. If I were to choose one it would be the organ gun though. Even though you give up striking range there is a very high probability that you will hit at least twice and as many as ten times. What is yours and why?

Organ gun for sure ( except when it misfires the very first turn you fire it and blows up, speaking from personal experience of course!)

Is this a real question? I mean, the Organ Gun wins hands down in ALL areas.
No contest to be honest.

I have never seen bolt throwers fielded and have some interest in them. Organ guns are great but they are limited by range. In my recent battles I have been getting better results from my grudge thrower. That 24 inch range is just not enough for brets. I get off one shot and then the cannon can be charged. I might try to screen for it on a hill. I am playing him again this week so I will give an update once that happens.

While you only get 1 shot off with the organ gun, usually 1 shot can lay waste to a unit of humans, especially with the -3 to armor.
The organ I think it best used either when it's in the middle of the battlefield protected by a bunch of stuff or when it's placed on a flank covering that side and being able to fire into the middle of the fray.
I like the flank option personally as it limits the number of units you can send against it. One of my known tactics when facing organ guns is to run up 2 unts of fast calvary behind each other but both in charge range. If the dwarven player shots down the first unit then the second one is in position to charge. If he ignores them then I charge with the first unit and let the second unit do some other task.
Placing it on the flank can be good because it allows for people to minimize that (usually due to terrain) and you can get lots of crossfire shots going once you clear the flank off.
As for bolt throwers they can be effective against brets since they rank up 3 across, usually meaning that they have 3 or more ranks. Don't take it without the engineer upgrade, they aren't worth it otherwise and if you can place a master engineer with them it makes the bolt thrower a nasty weapon.

I do like the organ gun on a flank. The problem I have been having as of late has been facing the cavalry of the brets. My lists were doing ok against most of the people I was playing. I had never played anything like the brets before. They turned me on my head. I put it on thhe flank my first game. The freaking knights did pretty much what you described and I only got one shot off for the game. It is fun though. It challenges me and forces me to try new things or I will continue to be crushed. Might play tonight, or at the lates thursday. I will post the results.

My friend has had quite a bit of success with bolt throwers - he usually brings 2 along with him plus organ gun and grudge thrower.
His organ gun is usually the most effective, from my point of view. Next I dislike his bolt throwers and I am least firghtened of his grudge thrower, although he's not been very lucky with the grude thrower dice recently.
Personally, I like it when he brings a cannon because it rarely does me any harm and I try to reduce the ranks of my elite troops when I see he's going to deplot one.

PS. My Dwarf friend usually deploys his bolt throwers with engineers and, I think, one usually gets the run of penetrating.
All I know for sure is that I don't like seeing them in front of me !

The rune of penetrating gives the weapon +1 to str. that would be very usefull on a bolt thrower. I really am looking forward to getting a couple and seeing what they can do on the field.

If you take a bolt thrower you need to take the rune of pen. mainly becuase it makes that weapon evil against monsterous creatures but more important it becomes magical and since it becomes str. 7 it can destroy chariots.
Very nasty against the black coach.

That is a great idea. I love the idea of them piercing an entire row. Even if it does not happen often, the idea is really neat. Be like a giant kabob. Thanks for the advice.

Another couple of rune's to think about equipping your bolt throwers with are the rune of seeking for flyers and the rune of burning. I have played against wood elves using these two ruins and it puts a scare into the treeman when its burning as well as keeping those warhawks slightly nervous

I plan on getting into a match with some wood elves. Sage advice. I would not have thought about the burning rune. I think I will throw it on the grudge thrower and perhaps the cannons. We will have to see.
