Hello community! I scrolled thro the first couple pages but didn't see what I needed. I apologize if these questions were covered. I have a couple....

#1. Can a magic user in close combat cast a spell as long as it is not a magic missile or states otherwise.

#2. Can a normal magic user wear any type of armor and still cast spells. (I"m not sure why I feel they can't)


well, I guess that's it. Coulda sworn I had more questions but I guess not. Any help would be appreciated and I apologize if these were already covered.

1, If the spell says it can be cast in combat then you can. Although there is a spell in the Daemons Nurgle list that doesn't say can be cast in combat but reduces anyone in base to bases stats..kinda pointless if you don't cast it into combat. The spell rules are explained in the magic section though and give pretty straightforward advice on this.

2, No, unless they come with armour to start with or have the option in their wargear they can't wear armour and if they can't wear armour they can't take magic armour from the list. Chaos Sorcerers come with Chaos Armour as standard and have dispensation to cast spells (and as they have normal armour you can give them magic armour and they can still cast spells too).

A spell can be cast FROM close combat at will, the only exception is Magic Missiles which specifically prevent this. However, be aware of Line of Sight. Typically if your Wizard is in close combat, they wont have Line of Sight to any enemies (or friendlies) except the enemies they are in combat with. At this point, you have to see if the spell allows you to cast AT units that are in close combat. The spell description must specifically state that it can be cast AT units in combat. Please make sure to notice the difference between casting FROM combat and casting AT combat. Warhammer Fantasy Rulebook page 107, Casting Spells paragraph 6.

The Engineer is correct on this one. A model may only purchase Magical Armor if they are allowed to wield normal armor first. The vast majority of Wizards cannot use armor and therefore are not eligible for Magic Armor. Chaos Sorcerers being the primary exception to this rule. Warhammer Fantasy Rulebook page 121, Magic Armor paragraph 3.

Miasma of Pestilence targets the caster and therefore can be cast in combat. Daemons of Chaos 7th Ed FAQ, Daemonic Magic question 2.

Thanks guys(or girls). Especially snowywlf for taking the time to look it up. I'll have to read that part. I kinda like to see it in writing myself if possible. That way, I don't have to argue when playing the game cuz I can easily point it out.

So does that mean a vampire can heal itself while in combat?

You bet. See the first question in the Vampire Counts FAQ for confirmation. Remember it is only 1 wound per cast, but they can keep cheesily casting it over and over if they like. (Burn Vampires, burn!)

I'd love to face a Vampire Lord with my Great Unclean One with Miasma of Pestilence up.. WS 1, S&T1 and A1 Vampire Lord is going to DIE!!!!!
