To be honest this is a pretty open question depending on the Tyranid build used. Nidzilla, Gaunt Swarm or Broodlord led armies all take different tactics to beat. Mostly the little stuff can be shot to pieces at range, blast templates are going to be good against the small stuff so Thunderfire cannon, Whirlwind, Frag missiles and the like will do well. Obviously that is going to be rubbish against the big stuff and Terminators are free points to a Carnifex or or Hive Tyrant.

Genestealers should be a priority always, take them out early and quickly. Your armour should save you from a lot of the pain of the gaunt types but rapid fire will see them off after you've already blast templated them to death. Shoot the fighty stuff and fight the shooty stuff is normally a good mantra, just watch out for Warriors as they can handle both quite nicely. Where you can, try and disrupt synapse as this will make the decisions of the Tyranid general a bit harder.

Yeah whirlwind and thunderfire cannon and i would try to take sternguard. Those guys with poison rounds are hell for carnifexes. Also ive found heavy bolters due wonders in thinning the ranks as well. oh yeah look into combi-flamers for your sternguard and run a unit or two, overkill against nids

As Engineer said, Tyranid armies largely divide into the Nidzilla (Carnifex Heavy Army), Swarm Army (Gaunt heavy), and Broodlord/Stealer heavy Army (Lots of stealers like the name).

I don't play much of a Space Marine, but I'd recommend optimum shooty army as possible. Lots of guns pointed at the enemy, don't bother with the "Land Raider Redeemer" cr@p, it's only going to get blown to bits in 2~3 turn without killing that much.

My recommendation is that kill the Genestealers first (whatever happens, don't let them get close. Ever. Unless you got extra 3 Infantry Squads to spare for every unit like IG, even then...), Kill the big ones second, like the 'fex, some warrior, guard, tyrant and etc. and thirdly then kill the swarm.

Although large in number, they're nowhere as good as Marine troops and, hopefulyl with some luck, you will come out as victor.

(Jeez! I think too much like a Guard player!)

Start new thread mate, or change the title.

But there is really no way to "beat" an army, except bit o' lady luck on your side and fine tactics.

By Death Guard, I hope you mean the Post-heresy Chaos Space Marine. (Some players do pre-heresy Death Guard Legion using SM codex)

Mate, one more thing.

Don't just vaguely point out this and that army.

In each army, there can be several builds, which can be encountered by several different build. Give some general idea about the game, terrain, point cost, what the enemy player is like, and so on.
