Lately I've been looking at what it would involve to start an Ogre Kingdom army. I've been trying to find the old Army Box on ebay, but I havent been able to find it yet. So, I figured I would try a different approach. I plan to start with two of the Battalion boxes, but what else should I think about getting? Keep in mind that I had originally planned to buy the old Army Box and one Battallion to "Get Started" with the army.

The Ogre Kingdoms Battalion comes with the following:
6 Ogre Bulls
4 Leadbelchers
4 Ironguts
24 Gnoblar Fighters

So this would leave me with a total of:
12 Ogre Bulls
8 Leadbelchers
8 Ironguts
48 Gnoblar Fighters

I'll probably spend the next few weeks thinking about what I would like to pick up. In the mean time, all thoughts, comments, and general advice would be welcome!

Hi Guardian,

I started with a Battallion box set, its great value for money. Add a Tyrant and a couple of Butchers and you have a 2000 point army.
Because the bodies are all the same you can easily make Leadbelchers into Bulls, and Ironguts. However you will find yourself short on great weapons for the Ironguts.

Thanks for the feedback.

I didnt know that all the models were interchangable so long as you had the weapons to equip them with! Are there any noteworthy differences between the models? (Bulls, Ironguts, or Leadbelchers) I'll have to try pricing individual boxes and bitz when the time comes to see if I can save any money.

When I was browsing the internet last night, I noticed that some of the Ogre sprues seemed to have a Gnoblars on them. (Very poor quality pics, so I wasnt able to see things as clearly as I would have liked) Are these Gnoblars useable for regular Gnoblar units? Or are they shaped in such a way that they are only useful as scenery of one form or another?

I've heard good things about both the Tyrants and the Butchers, so I figured I would be picking up one of each to start off with. I also really like the Hunter Model so I'll probably pick up one of those too.

How large of units do you usually take? I was thinking of making units of +6 for both the Bulls and Ironguts, and units of 5 for the Leadbelchers. (Keep in mind that I like playing larger games.)

Any other thoughts, comments, or advice?

PS: Nice Blog I took a look around and you have some very nicely done Ogre Kingdom models!

All the bodies are the same for Bulls, Ironguts, and Leadbelchers its just the arms that differ, weapons differ.

The Gnoblar on the sprues are good quality can be used as scenery. They can also be used as gnoblar trappers.

I love the Hunter model as well, so have two in my army a Butcher and a Tyrant.

Usually never more than 4. The frontage is too wide and awkward to move.

Units of 5 Leadbelchers is very bad. Rolling D6 wounds for every misfire and you are going to panic. I have 2 units of 3, or could go 3 units of 2. Units of 2 are excellent, because you can't lose 25%.

Have a look on my blog for some ideas.

Being able to use the extra Gnoblars from the sprues as Trappers would be great. Thats probably what I'll end up doing with them then.

Are Luck Gnoblars, Lookout Gnoblars, etc worth taking as upgrades? (I'm guessing this is what all the extra Gnoblars I've seen are for.)

Movement trays should help with moving the units, but I'll keep in mind the size of the units when I pick up my first models and start building them.

I see what you mean with the Leadbelchers. I can see a misfire being a bad thing. My original thought was that units of 5 would require the loss of 2 models for panic.

A. If you lose 1 than that's 50% so panic check.

B. Three wounds each x 2 models = 6 wounds
25% of 6 wounds is less than 2 wounds.

So if you lose 2 wounds, or if you lose a model, panic check.

Your right lose 1 model is more than 25%. What I mean't to say is that you can't go below 25%, therefore can always attempt to rally.

I thought panic was on model count and not wounds?

How did I miss this topic!

I bought two Battalion boxes to make my army - a great deal, one of the best in WHFB.

From that I made 9 Ironguts, a Bruiser, 2 Butchers, 4 Leadies, and the rest Bulls. The Ogre bodies are all the same and with the (ton) of bits you get you can easily craft more Ironguts and Characters (with a little Greenstuff).

Also - panic is 25% of the unit. If you lose one Ogre out of 3 that is a panic test. At 5 it would be 2.

I just finished ordering some stuff to start my Ogre Kingdoms army. First is a list of what all I have coming, then I have a few questions!

Here is what I have coming:
1 X Tyrant
1 X Butcher
1 X Hunter
1 X Gnoblar Trapper box (7 models)
2 X Maneater Blister
3 X Battalion box

This will leave me with a grand total of:
1 Tyrant
1 Butcher
1 Hunter w/2 Sabertusks
1 Giant (I already have it and it sees a lot of use in my O&G army)
7 Gnoblar Trackers (I'll make about 3 more with extras from the ogre sprues)
2 Maneaters
18 Bulls
12 Ironguts
12 Leadbelchers
72 Gnoblars

-I've heard that the basic Ogre bodies are the same from all the different sprues, does this mean that the bodies are the same on the Butcher and Tyrant as well?

-Does anyone know how many Gnoblars come with each of the sprues? (Tyrant, Butcher, Bulls, Ironguts, & Leadbelchers)

-Without using green stuff, what kind of conversions will I be able to do? Will there be enough extra bitz from the Butcher sprue to make a second one with an extra body?

-What should I consider adding to this army and why?

-Any other sage advice or comments?

they don't appear to be, but it's possible.

I don't know about the rest but this says:

Butcher:
This box set contains one metal Ogre Butcher that can be armed with a hammer, saw-blade or sickle, and includes three head variants and two Gnoblar assistants. Model supplied with a 40mm square base.

Tyrant
This box set contains one metal Ogre Tyrant that can be assembled with one of two head variants, and armed with either a great weapon or two hand weapons. Model supplied with a 40mm square base.

I'd say more then likely, but I'm no expert.

umm... I don't know.

this has some nice possibility's for conversions for Butchers.

this shows the many tribes and color schemes for them.

what Maneaters did you get? there's 6 maneater models, all look pretty cool.

Thanks for the feedback.

To be honest, I'm not sure which maneater models I have coming. I ordered them off of ebay and the descrition said "Each Blister contains 1 random Maneater model" so I'm just hoping they are two different models. If not, I'll just do a little conversion work to one to help it stand out. There are four maneater models that I really like, (Paymaster, Pirate, Imperial, and Araby, . . . in that order) so I kind of hope that I get at least one of those.

ya, that would suck to get two of the same.
I like the Imperial one. the others are nice to, the female ones a little weird but still a unique model. and the Ninja one is fun, the Gnoblar with him is great lol.
