So right now the strongest armies are daemons of chaos (nurgle and khorne). Since lizards are one of the most popular Warhammer armies at the moment I would like to hear what strategies you lizardman players use vs. those nasty daemons. I have only played against tzeench with lizards so far.

I will post a list of my army later here.

VS nurgle
Dont use a EOTG against mortal nurgle. He will use that default magnifecent buboes sniping spell and take out your priest super early. Also, pit of slime wreaks havoc on stegadons. Maybe a oldblood on a carnosaur to go daemon prince hunting? nurgle mortals can be very tuff but as with all chaos you need to focus on thier characters if you can. Also a slaan with bane head and lore of death to try and snipe his heroes with steal soul maybe? yea the skinks lose alot of thier shooting power and should be used to redirect charges and annoy against him and to march block. Also, SALAMANDERS!! they are great against chaos warriors. Also, mark of nurgle is the most expensive mark so you should be outnumbering him by alot atleast.Saurus with spears can go toe to toe with warriors so maybe lots of blocks of them.
I would actually be very careful flanking with skinks against chaos warriors... maybe possibly worth it if you have a krox in there to do a kill or two. Remember, the skinks will give you full rank bonus and provide +1 flank and probably +1 outnumber for a total of +4/5, but if the chaos guys can kill that many t2 skinks then their advantage is completely negated. Not only that, if they manage to kill more then you are better off without the skinks there at all. Depends on what he equips them with, you are facing a potential 8 s4 attacks on the flank if he had 3 ranks, or 12 attacks from the same unit if he equipped them with 2 hand weapons. Maybe more if he shifts a unit champ or character there for the easy kills. You definitely need to weigh it up.
Hand weapon+shield kills 3.7 skinks on mean rolls. 3 ranks down, flank, outnumber, it's totally worth it most times, assuming you kill no one. (.18 skinks kill a guy) (.7 from the krox) So yeah, they are generally helpful. Nurgle makes the Kroxigor much less effective, but has no effect on skinks slappery. Furthermore, it should be noted that not everyone takes 20 man blocks of warriors, people often use 15 or even 10 because they are expensive. (so less attacks)

Where skinks REALLY help is when charging the flanks of cavalry. You win by 2 even if they kill 3 people. Note that with the skinks as mentioned above with the hypothetical Kroxigor and tons of skinks, they will win by nearly 2 even against a nurgle block of 20 guys if all goes to the statistical mean. Further, skinks become very strong if you play with clipping rules instead of sliding (ask your tourney mod or your opponent). If you wing them on the side and only touch 1-2 guys the skinks can topple those nurgle guys real bad.

Further, unlike the slaanesh boyz, nurgleoids are still subject to fear, and hence, can get clowned by kroxigor's roar. A Kroxigor lives forever, but not so little skinks, painted clubs and giant rings make way for other things some fine day it'll happen, where nurgle rolls a 12, and the chaos guy will place his boys upon a forgotten shelve, and that player will be seen no more, and puff the mighty kroxigor will cease his fearless roar.

Question.

Why are you talking about fighting Nurgle Mortals in a thread about Demons of Chaos?

OK, as a Daemons player I'll give you my number 1 tip for defeating Daemons.

Ready?

Skinks......

Yes, you heard that right, Skinks. Take blowpipes for the poisoned attacks and watch with horror as your lowliest units rip apart Daemons with auto-wounds. Seriously, try them against a greater Daemon (probably not against a Bloodthirster though) and howl with laughter as their 5+ ward save fails utterly in the face of large numbers of dice rolls.

Tzeentch's
1.) They have a banner that gives -2 to casting.
2.)Can produce 18+ dispel dice.
3.) has a spell Boone of Tzeentch gives them D3+1 Powerdice.
4.)Powervortex which gives a Level 2 Wizard +1 PD
it is not as bad as it may look. Not only do lizardmen have some of the best offensive magic thanks to the slann, but we also have one of the best defensive magic phases if worked right. Going against power dice junkie lists, I rely upon a combination of cube of darkness/BSotOO, and a 3rd generation slann w/ drain magic, staff of sorcery, curse charm of tepok, and a dispel scroll. With the first magic phase shutdown, you will be able to use drain magic/curse charm combo to force your opponent to essentially abandon his main caster. The remaining dispel scroll and +2 to dispel should get you through the rest. Even with such a defense, you should still be able to out-fight a Tzeentch daemons list, and the mortals are being shafted so its no biggy (no chariot dice batteries anymore

some other words
Bloodletters hate Skinks like fat kids like cake. Poison aside it is fairly easy to widdle them down with vast quantities of blow pipes and bows.

Demons ironically need to be beaten in hand to hand. So spread them out with march blocking and hammer them with Warriors and Kroxigors. If your opponant is going to bring 18 Dispel Dice, bring a carnosaur instead of your Slann. See how long his bloodcrushers last against Carno in one side and kroxigors in the other.

Be extremely careful of the Heralds of Nurgle. They have an ability to reduce the fighting prowess of anything in contact with them to a hair's breadth above zero. Make sure you are going to snap Plaguebearer units in two or be damned sure you multi charge. They will humiliate you, then kill you.

Demons are heinous, but not unbeatable. Just dont try to out magic something that can't be out magiced.

Bloodthirster
definately a nasty beast but far from invincible. What you want to do is SKINKS. Keep in mind our giant friend can still only see 20". It's better if you use his Frenzy to lure him with skinks, then flee and hopefully get away, but if not oh well, but you'll need to force him to fly right smack in between at least 50 skinks and blowpipe that son of a B**** back to the fiery abyss from which his rage leapt! A Slann, although powerless in combat, can still extremely help in this fight. He can hurl some very nasty spells that Bloodthirster's way, even if he is magic resistant. If Daemons are anything like they used to be, magic isn't as hard as it may seem because they only have magic resistance and a ward save that's semi-decent, not a large dispel pool or scrolls and ridiculous armor.

So, against a melee army, hammer away with shooting from his flanks and poison will triumph. As for the Slaanesh demons, I can't help I don't think because I've never fought Slaanesh. Khorne, however, is manageable. If you can, try to get spells that indirectly target his units, like Comet of Cassandora, which he won't get any Magic resistance for and it'd be a great way to smash his hounds.

A Stegadon...I'd probably take. You'll probably be hitting on 4's, with long range and large target, or 3's, and those D3 wounds can help. And if you MUST take a Oldblood, he'll NEED the Aura of Quetzl, the best damn armor save you can manage being at least 0 or -1+. You might also want to arm yourself with the Blade of Realities. Which I believe you'll hit on 4's and wound on 5's but those wounds will ignore heavy armor and his ward save, not to mention do double wounds, so with luck you could actually kill him in one crushing combat, but it's iffy.

I hope this helped, best of luck.

IIRC Bloodthirsters don't have Frenzy by default and blowpipes are less useful due to items like Armour of Khorne or Obsidian Armour which gives them a pretty decent armour save. Also, do not take a Stegadon against a Bloodthirster, I'd se eit as free points as you should be able to work out a charge on it in short order and the BT will rip it apart before you strike back. All Khorne army is the easiest to beat due to an all round low T and not as fast as Slaanesh, pick them off with shooting and static CR will get you through once they are in charge range.

Heralds of Nurgle will have to cast Miasma of Pestilence to screw your stats, and it's a 3+ cast so you can easily dispel it if you know what it does. Although, Noxious vapours cause you to strike last in combat and Slime Trail means you're not getting bonuses for flank/rear charges. Plaguebearers with a Herald are by far the toughest core unit in the Daemons list.
