I've noticed that most (including me) people like to sit in a corner with ranged guys on a hill or in a building (or both) and wait for the enemy to come. Well, this has worked for me...Well really it hasn't but due to the fact my blocks of units are no more than 12 each I suppose it would work if I made them bigger. Anyway, is there any other strategies, as I am still a tiny bit new to dwarves, I only know to stay in a corner. Any suggestions otherwise? Or is that all we can do?

Couple of basic tips

For Dwarf infantry use blocks of 20-25 nothing smaller. Only exception are small units of 10-12 Warriors in large games (2000pts+) which you can use as flank and rear guard units.

What you are talking about there is the Gunline Castle Defence. Where you shoot shoot shoot and then mop up whats left with your infantry. This can work, but is too one-dimensional and has its flaws. Key among them is the fact that we can't move and shoot so enemy fast cavalry which easily outflank you and avoid your shooting. That and flying units will just charge you in turn 2 and your shooting is over.

Our big advantages which you should play to are
- High Toughness, we are hard to kill
- High leadership, we don't run away

Basically nobody likes to get into combat with Dwarfs as we either chew them up & break them on CR, or we simply dont run away and slowly grind them down.

Go with the following basic ratios in each type of match

750pt Games
I Hero
2 Infantry units
1 Missle unit (maybe 2 if you field a single large block of infantry)
1 Warmachine max

Anymore than 1 missle unit means you have too many weakly armoured guys who will get run through. N.B. Your missle guys will get 2 and at most 3 turns of shooting in before they are charged, so infantry should form the basis of your army.

1000pts
1-2 Heroes, make 2nd one a Runesmith
2 Infantry units
2 Missle units
1 Warmachine

2250 pts (standard Tournament size)
1 Lord
3 Heroes (inc. Runesmith & BSB)
3-4 Infantry Blocks (inc. 1 special choice, Hammerers or Ironbreakers)
2 Missle units
2 Warmachines (maybe 3)

Regarding BSB - I only ever take them in games of 1500pts or more find I dont need them below that. If I am facing a magic heavy opponent in small pt games I also make my single Hero a Runesmith.

I play Dwarfs all the time so ask me anything if you like, also check out Bugmans Brewery its the PRIMARY online home for Dwarf players something like 250,000 posts at last count
