I havent. I still think GW produce the best miniatures over-all. Sure there are some nice sculpts out there, but if you want a good looking unit, GW is the way to go. I dont go for cheaper options if I know it won't look as good on the table.

I just realized you might meant where I buy them :) I never buy directly from GW. Either I order online (wayland games) or I buy at my local store.

I play a variety of non-GW games so sometimes buy minis from West Wind, Ironclad, North Star and Artizan, and the odd plastic box from Wargames Factory. Occasional Reaper and Privateer minis too, but as these are nearly as expensive as GW I have to really like them. A lot of my minis also come from ebay etc, I've got a bunch of HeroClix and some MageKnight minis, and recently got my hands on some plastic Prince August sculpts (I think?) that are currently sold by EM4. They're dirt chaep from the EM4 website - http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Copy_of_Fantasy.html - you can get 50 plastic Orcs or Dwarves for £7.70, which is about 1/6 the price of GW. They're a bit limited but I'm not exactly after great art - anyway, even if a mini is awesome, after I've painted it, it's likely to look a bit rubbish, so why not get 'cheap and cheerful' in the first place?

There are a lot of great mini manufacturers out there - and some which, thought they aren't so great maybe, are certainly very cheap and great for 'unit-filler' figures. It makes no sense to buy new GW when so many other manufacturers can provide some as good but cheaper. I can't actually remember when I last bought new GW minis. Assault on Black Reach, probably, which was a pretty good deal. But individual boxes? Doesn't happen at all often.

Those EM4 miniatures are O.K., but I'd be happy with stripping stuff I buy on eBay. I honestly like the G.W. sculpts and kits, just not the prices they're trying to charge for them. What little G.W. stuff I still buy comes from my FLGS in Dublin, which is actually 5 mins. walk from G.W. Dublin, much to G.W. Dublin's chagrin!!

Oh, yeah, I still get lots of GW stuff from ebay. Many of the sculpts are indeed great (I've just got a whole bunch of cheap LotR minis, they're excellent) but the prices are just too much for new minis.

As I don't play games in GW stores I get figures from whatever company I like the look of. That said probably 90% of my collection is GW. Black Tree have some nice monsters, dwarfs & goblins. Mantic are now producing some very reasonable plastic & resin sculpts (Abyssal Dwarfs make great Chaos Dwarfs). Some of the Workshop prices are just ludicrous (and I don't mean the rapper). Generally though Games Workshop do still make the best sculpts. Ebay is my favourite place to shop.

Thanks for the em4miniatures and Black Tree tips guys.

I don't plan to buy any more GW models if I can avoid it - ie. I can get a substitute elsewhere (I haven't bought from GW for about 5 years, it's been old 2nd hand plastic eBay for me with mainly Reaperminis and Armorcast for my Nauticans - although they are both also quite expensive). I think GW are aware that they're losing a lot of paying customers and that's why they are producing so many large (and easily breakable!) unique plastic monsters/war machines. I think other companies will be too scared to replicate these large models for fear of copyright infringement - which doesn't really exist for elves, dwarves, orcs etc but probably does for a Necrosphinx or a Coven Throne for example.

I have enough minis for the time being, I was lucky enough to collect most of mine in the late 80's / early 90's when they were fairly cheap.

Call me an old cynic because I am an old cynic ;-) They say if you scratch the surface of a cynic you will find an original idealist underneath, sadly I think that's true. I hark back to the old days (ok so the rules weren't as good) but the gaming culture was better and I didn't feel like the company was trying to rip me off.

I do a whole lot of mixing and matching. For the most part I stick with GW stuff, but for my army feel or because of dissatisfaction I go to other suppliers. Like I'm a big fan of Ultraforge and Hordes miniatures, but pricewise they are usually about the same.

My on line purchases tend to come from Wayland Games.

I've recently been to a store in London (Waterloo) who do a good range of minis from different systems including GW, and they come at competitive prices, the store is called 'Dark Sphere.'

Heresy do some really nice sculpts, so do Hasslfree. Neither are particularly inexpensive, but they are nice to deal with. I got a packet of sweets with my last order.

Fireforge does amazing work, but their miniatures are historical so only really work if you're playing Brets or Empire.

Well their site must be screwed up. My security suite is telling me it's a 'suspicious site'. :(

I had a trawl for them, here's a You Tube review of their Teutonic Knights, they are okay, but there's much better out there:

Hope this helps NK. ;)

I'm salivating at the Sciborminiatures dwarves at the moment.

They do some fine Dwarves. So does Avatars of War.
