Hey guys, just looking for some advice.

I'm starting a new army up,as I feel my High Elf army has reached a point where I can take a break from it for awhile (3500 points),and I've been thinking of starting a new army for awhile, initially I was going to go for Skaven as there book had just come out,but I'm losing interested based off of the mass of models that I would need (I'm hoping to actually get this army painted to a fairly reasonable standard instead of bare plastic as far as the eye can see).

I've a;ways enjoyed fielded elite armies (like High Elves) and given that I'll give my short list for the armies I'd like to collect, and see what you guys think, and maybe give me some advice on them.

Skaven- Have always liked the Ratmen, their background and there feel is something I've always been atracted to but I'm looking at how many model it would take to have at the least 1500 points and am having some sticker shock.

Warriors of Chaos- These guys are tied or slightly above Skaven on my list, I love there background and feel to,and they would allow me to get a small elite army on the field faster then the Skaven would, combined with the models being very nice, they rank high on my list.

Dwarfs- Always loved Dwarfs,I think they would work very well for me as long as I could get into combat with the enemy, would love to collect an army based off of Longbeards and Ironbreakers.

Those are my top three armies,I am willing to take suggestion about other armies, and am also looking for advice on which army you guys think I should take.

Thanks,SoK

Umm, I guess Dwarves could also solve your troop number problem. They have more than WoC but a lot less than Skaven. They are kind of diverse if you count 3 options as diverse:
Combat Heavy
Gunline
Mixed
I guess more options that WoC but less than Skaven. So I guess Dwarves would be the ultimate medium for you if you can't choose between the two others.

Hi SoK,

I'd go with Warriors of Chaos purely because of the quality of the miniatures and the variety of troops you can take into combat.

I think the downside for dwarfs is that they are extremely static and games become very samey. At least, they feel that way when I play against them, I have only played as Dwarfs a couple of times.

Skaven are great for the gadgets, wierd contraptions and wonderful randomness but you've strongly suggested that you don't fancy painting a lot of minis so they're really not for you.

Let us know which way your scatter dice point :D

you mentioned willing to listen to other armies as well.

Dark elves give you in a broad sense high elves with monsters

Lizards can be fielded in medium numbers and do fairly well.

You could make an all Minotaur beastmen army (mind you thought the new book is out in february and GW could do anything with them

Ogre kindoms have a smallish number of models in them, but I've never had a thing for Ogres, always felt when they annouced them they missed a chance to bring in something cooler, like cathy/nippon

out of the 3 you listed a warriors army with mounted knight and even mounted marauders can be qucik, dangerous and compact.

dwarfs can be fun as well, but they are an army that does rely on the enemy coming to them

I think I've decided upon Warriors of Chaos as my next army, mostly because of the models and their background.

I'm going to start small with them, buy a couple box each of Chaos Warriors and Chaos Knights and see where I get.

So if everything goes as planned I won't need this thread agian.
