Hi!
I've been into 40k for about a year, and never touched FB. But seeing all the nice models in WD and on the shelves made me want to paint some dark elves ;)

My first ever fantasy model, a dark elf shade:

I've read a bunch of DnD Forgotten Realms stuff, so I wanna try make an army based of the Drow faction the Jaezred Chaulssin. They are a bunch of assassins basically. All male.

I'm gonna need:
- a bunch of shades
- assassin characters including Shadowblade
- 2 x 10 crosswbow guys
- 2 x bolt throwers
- something else

How many assassin-like elves can i pour into an army and still be competitive? ;) Got any suggestions for other units that work well together with these? (no female).

I would say at max 2 Assassins in any army smaller than 3k pts... since they are very expensive troops, so long as they kill their enemy in first round they do well, but if not.. they are dead.

agree with krash. They are very usefull, but you need a lot of points that can be destroyed 'easy'

I love an assassin into a shades unit. It must be about 10 shades or they are easily destroyed by magic or shoots.
get the stars and manbane and you can beat a lot of heavy guys. I killed a unit of juggernaugts with commander in a row. (shades and assassin, lucky I guess). It's almost a 2+ hit and 2+ injury.

Another way is an assassin into a ground unit that you know si easily attacked. Maybe b.a.corsairs that are one of the hardest units against shoot, usually they are attacked by riders and you stand and shoot and then show the assassin. This one with rune of khaine+manbane+aditional hand weapon.

I'll try shadowblade in a 2K thematic combat this weekend. A classic light vs dark in a 4 vs 4 commanders :), I'll tell you how it goes.

As Krash said, more than 2 is too many points. Maybe against shooting armies are more weak, but against 'hard' units is required with manbane.

I like the combo of Touch of death (Killing blow), Rune of Khaine (+D3 attacks) and Black lotus (reroll all 1's to wound). With WS 9 he hits easy enough, and the killing blow and reroll easily makes up for his "low" strength

Thanks for the advice guys. Looking forward to your report ebon :D

I like the idea of corsairs with assassin. From different forums it seems most people favor Warriors over Corsairs, but I don't get it. The C cloak is sweet.

I think my army will run 2 Ass

7-10 shades + assassin
20 corsairs + assassin, up the middle

And then maybe Shadow, it is a lot of points though

:D

shades are great. they deploy as scout, with assassin hide inside. Then you start showing the assassing and 'move' one shade 3cm, so it can take line of sight and charge, or just move and shot with those HA5/Repeater crossbow and the rending stars.
10 shades is a good number for avoiding panic test for early shooting.

the corsairs with pistol are great, they shoot twice with no negatives for moving or stand and shoot. so you can move and shoot, remove some enemies, stand and shoot, remove some enemies and remove row bonus, then the assassin appears and hit a lot and maybe some corsaris can hit (hatred helps :P).

i'm always going to have shades in my army, no matter what. they are potential game winners for me.
