Hello Everyone, Just registered as a member and would like some advice on my army list Supreme Sorceress: 368 Lvl 4 Black Staff Pendant of Khaeleth Dark Steed Death Hag:235 Touch of Death Hand of Khaine BSB Hydra Banner Sorceress:160 Lvl 2 Darkstar Cloak Dark Elf Warriors:155 unit size:20 shields Full Command Dark Elf Crossbowmen:145 unit size:14 guardsman Dark Riders:117 unit size:5 Repeater Crossbows Musician Harpies:55 unit size:5 Harpies:55 unit size:5 Shades:80 unit size:5 Cold One Knights:202 unit size:6 Full Command Black Guard:330 unit size:20 Full Command Standard of Hag Graef Executioners:223 unit size:14 Full Command Banner of Murder Reaper Bolt Thrower:100 Reaper Bolt Thrower:100 Hydra:175 Total: 2500 So I tried to go for a balanced approach to all aspects. Dark Magic seems too destructive to not take an investment in. The BSB is going to join the executioners with the hydra banner and the banner of murder for a "can-opener" effect on any armor clad units. I'll be going up against alot of Warriors of Chaos, so this seems like a worthwhile investment. The guardsman in the crossbow unit is merely because I had 5 points to put somewhere. Thanks for any comments! |

Nicely constructed, it looks like a good army list to me. I just fought a Dark Elf army this weekend and got totally slaughtered. That crone Hellebron did for me You're right to include some harpies, they might be a bit vulnerable to missile fire but my opponent really missed having some in our last battle because he couldn't get to Thorek. |

You have some decent magic but I'd still suggest some "guarantees" in the form of scrolls. The new WoC spell lists are evil but even going magic heavy like you are I'd prefer at least one scroll for that spell you HAVE to stop. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I took out the guardsman in the crossbowmen unit and replaced the Hand of Khaine with Black Lotus. This helps the odds that I'll land a killing blow. Do you think its worth it, to replace Darkstar cloak with a dispel scroll, or even turning my level 2 sorceress into a level 1 scroll caddy? ~Marik |

Personally I'd take out the executioners, make the Bolt Throwers 1 rare choice, and put in a Hydra. Executioners just never seem to do very well at all while the Hydra is there to cause terror, breath fire, and chomp anything in front of it. Then use the extra point to give your shades great weapons and maybe add in 1 or two more |

Well, I have a hydra already. Do you suggest two then? Or did you not see the Hydra in the list? I can take two bolt throwers as a single Rare slot. |

Yeah, I completely missed the Hydra in the first post. Well then instead, two meaty units of great weapon shades should always strike fear into an opponent. Or maybe a nice block 14 or so (7x2) of frenzied Corsairs. I really just have a thing against Executioners though. |

I would have to agree with the idea to take out the executioners. From personal experience they never seem to do much. And when they don't make it into combat they just take shots for the whole game. I most agree with Tizz on taking great weapon shades. They could be deployed so that they could intercept your opponent's most important unit(s). That way your opponent will have to delay his plans in order to save his unit(s). |

In the last game I played with Dwarfs against Dark Elves the Executioners never even made it into combat. I cut them down with an anvil and crossbow bolts. My opponent used them as a screen, I remember thinking he would have been better off with shades or harpies really. |

Yeah, you guys are probably right with the executioners, which is sad as they are nice models, and their fluff is great. For only a point more, black guard really are the best. I've tweaked the list a bit, and am now looking at a 2250 instead of the original 2500. Using everyone's suggestions and some more thinking. I'll post it in a bit, when i find some time. |

A little pointsaver maybe: reduce the unit Cld One Knights to 5, since 6 is unwieldy if deployes all 6 in front rank, or stupid if deployed in two ranks. Also ONLY take the banner model (although if lost it will cost you extra 100 points), or no command at all. A small unit cavalry with a champion is easy to kill by a single character (challenge, overkill. Knights can only score Outnumber and Banner, while with good overkill the character can score up to +6!!!) Besides: if your knights get the charge, you won't need the extra attack from your champ Also another pointer: Dark Elves are excellent in guerrilla warfare, so many fast moving and flexible units. I find your list maybe a bit rigid in this, with large blocks of infantry. I fear you may find yourself in your own way! |

For a balanced list, you have a nice set up. But if you are ever looking for a tournament build, I would say ditch the Cold One Knights and Executioners and get some Assassins, more Dark Riders, and another big hitter such as more Black Guard. |

having just picked up a battalion and downloaded the rulebook online, i suggest corsairs. They're just crazy good. For ten points, they can either have 2 attacks or a repeater handbow, which, for 8" range, is awesome. No movement penalties, 2 shots, no penalties for standing and shooting. Amazing. |

Okay, so its been awhile, but I reconstructed the army a bit, tuned it down to 2250 points. I've played with it a bit, mainly against WoC but i'll be getting a few games in against WEs and perhaps Empire. So, without further delay: Supreme Sorceress:400 level 4 Black Staff Pendent of Khaleth Pegasus Master:214 BSB - Hydra Banner Heavy Armor Shield Sea Dragon Cloak Lance Cold One Sorceress:172 level 2 Dark Star Cloak Dark Steed crossbowmen:100 size:10 2x Dark Riders:117 size:5 Musician Crossbows 2x Harpies:55 size:5 Cold One Knights:175 size:5 Full Command Cold One Chariot:100 Black Guard:280 size:15 Full Command Banner of Hag Graef Soulrender (champion) Shades:90 size:5 Great Weapons 2x Reaper Bolt Thrower:100 War Hydra:175 Now, I've been playing with this list alot, and I really like it. Again, its very balanced between the different phases of the game. The one thing that I fear is my Achilles Heel is a strong ranged attack, either magic or a gunline. At the moment I really only have 5 dispel dice for a magic defense, and a few harpies to screen. So in some regards its a win big, lose big army list. Let me know what you guys think. |
