Dims should be banned cos he is too friggen good at painting and will win all the time!! j/k :) but you are too good!

haha, I take that both as a compliment, and seriously. Don't worry, really, çause I wouldn't be joining EVERY competition. I think if I do 2 a year, it is a lot already! I have a habit of getting a new model for each competiton I do, so I will never send in older, already finished models. Well, then, THEN it would get hard to enter EVERY time.

Besides, I'm in it for the learning experience. Everytime I force myself to paint to a higher standard (which i mainly only do for competitions, not full armies), I get better big time. So whether I win or not is not important to me. Let me enter just for fun then, no worries :D

Oh and by the way: have you seen that awesomely painted Lord Kroak? serious competition man! Nuff said!

I dont know Konrad. I think dims is perfect for this kind of compitition, it gives the rest of us something to aim for.

Maybe we could give the winner some kind of special status in the following competition? Obviously you arent going to want the same person to win all the time, so they probably wouldnt be able to compete in the following competition, but maybe they could choose the rules/guidelines for the following competition?

I think letting everyone choose one model that they like the best would work great for the voting system. It gives everyone a chance to have a say. Besides, it seems to work well enough for the Hammerer of the Month award.

@ Rockgollem, You should still compete even if it takes you a while to paint your entry. After all, we are going to have 4 months to complete our model/models/terrain.

I didn't realize we had started... just went back through the posts and saw Sigmar's last post.... One question, does it have to be a converted model? Is there extra points for that or something, or is that just an option?

Konrad, I agree with your suggestion that a person can not win 2 consecutive prizes in a row. They can get ranked #1 in consecutive competitions but they only pick up the prize for the first competition. A person can however win get ranked #1 and win the prize every other competition.

Teddy, it doesn't have to be a converted model, any model at all will do but it should be a fantasy model in my opinion (as opposed to 40k) - because we are mainly a fantasy forum. Also, that way, I can post the pics on my fantasy blog for the world to see.

Once thing we haven't discussed....

What's the prize ?
---------------------

I was thinking:-

1st place 10 Karma and "Best Forum Painter" accolade / avatar
2nd place 6 Karma
3rd place 3 Karma

Also, we could use the winner's pic in the forum as the pic for the painting competition thread.

Fluff
------

Also, for those of us less talented with a paint brush I was thinking of maybe allowing some narrative background/fluff etc to go along with your pic, maybe for example a very short story (2 or 3 paragraphs). This could be taken into consideration in the voting (or used as a tie-breaker). The "fluff" is afterall a major part of the game.

Voting
--------
A poll should work ok because you can only cast your vote once and you have to be a member of the forum.

I think everyone should just be allowed to vote for one entry in the scenery and terrain category and one entry in the miniature category. You can use your own criteria but maybe consider:- painting skill, presentation (eg bases/mounting), setting (eg. for a miniature surrounding scenery), accompanying "fluff" etc.

With the scenery category maybe we should allow dioramas which contain miniatures and plain scenery/terrain with no miniatures ?

How does that all sound ?

I don't know, man...

*points to the back and leg problem I mentioned then points to fact it takes me 30 minutes to just prime 4 models black... *

Probably won't make it...

I understand competition but I wouldnt want to compete in a boxing ring with a 500 pound gorilla (dims :D) I think I would come out worse off every time... if you catch my drift.

I think the prize should be $250 for the winner, $50 for runners up.
J/k of course :P

Please let me make the avatar for that Sigmar, I will have to work on it when I get back from Australia in 2 weeks.
Voting sounds good :)

Think "Rocky." We might get pounded (to a pulp) a couple of times, but we will come out stronger for it.

I've been out of touch for a bit here but sounds like this is now under way. 4 months, that gives me time to think of what I could enter that could also fit in with one of my armies. Is there a category for a single miniature and a unit or just one. Doesn't matter really just makes me wonder which way to go.
Hey Rockgollem do you hand paint your primer on? I have always just used GW black primer spray. It works great it doesn't melt plastic plus it doesn't take long at all. Downside is the GW primer is expensive but there are some knock off brands that can be cheaper.
This should be fun, do we need to post a picture of the mini before we start? It might be cool for some WIPS as we go along. Just a thought but I guess it would also depend on how many entry's there are. Anyway good luck and happy painting too all. And it's ok if you take your time and miss the deadline dims, I'm sure we all would forgive you.

Yup, I always hand paint them, I know it doens't melt plastics, but it stains them. That's what I don't like about them.

Plus, I paint and model to occupy time, so I think I'll pass on the primer and keep on with my old set of mind.

I'm not sure what you mean by staining them as I haven't had that problem before. Lately I have been using an airbrush for priming. The stting up and taking down is a bit of a pain but it works well.

I would like to know how it would take you 4 Months to get a Model assembled, Primed and Painted...I could have one ready in a Week I think....Or maybe it's because I need it for my Mighty Empires Campaign...Not sure which!

I would say though, to not disencourage others, that the rule should be to send in the pics of the models in a short period of time. If I would for instance post my pic within a few weeks, the rest might feel that that better not enter, so that would be a complete waste of 4 months. I'd say: in the two weeks prior to the voting, all models should be entered.

Good idea, it wouldnt be a complete waste, im sure they would have a nice looking model to their collection.
I like your idea about the purposely badly painted model, I would p'ss myself laughing at something you could create if you weren't trying.. I would cry if it got ranked higher than mine though!!

but then I would talk like a retarded spidermonky on crack and no one would be able to understand me. I would have to blink once for "no" twice for "yes" and three times for "please wipe my ass"
