It won't take me 4 months either but if that's when the voting starts, that leaves plenty of time to figure out what to paint. I like dims idea as well. We could always post a picture of what we want to paint before the actual figure is painted as well. :? I'm not sure where I'm going with this But If I decide to do a unit then 4months is plenty of time for me to get it done. The hard part is deciding what to paint and then what color scheme etc.
Can a person enter both a unit and single miniature? Or just stick to one. I'm wondering if there should be one category for now that everyone agrees to or a couple of category's to enter.

If no one objects then we shall use the following rules. You have 3 days to say if you disagree with any of the below or have any further ideas.

Categories (you can only enter 1 of them)

1) best single miniature (can be mounted or be a war machine, monster)
2) best unit or group of miniatures (eg. in a diorama)
3) best modelling (ie. conversions, terrain, buildings etc)

Each forum member can enter just one category (so that we have 3 separate winners)

What's the prize ?
---------------------

1st place 10 Karma and "Best Forum Painter" accolade / avatar
2nd place 6 Karma
3rd place 3 Karma

Winner's pics get used to advertise the competition, painting and modelling threads.

Fluff
------

For those of us less talented with a paint brush...add some narrative, background/fluff etc to go along with your pic (say 2 or 3 paragraphs) for a better chance of winning (can be used as a tie breaker)

Voting
--------
1 vote per forum member for each category.

based upon:- painting skill, use of colours / imagination, background "fluff"

Dates
---------------------

June 30th deadline:- post a pic of the unpainted or partially painted miniature(s) / terrain / diorama (must be unfinished) *

July 31st :- post your completed competition entry (up to 3 pics) **

August 1st - 14th : voting period.

* to prove you have painted / built a model specifically for this competition
** include a paper/card/note under or next to the entry saying "battlereporter.freeforums.org July 09 competition"
(this is to show that the miniature is yours and not a pic taken off the internet ! not that anyone here would stoop to such a goblinesque level :)

I don't have any issues with these rules. I was also hoping to enter a single model as well as a unit but I guess I will do both and enter only one. I have also started on a mini but as it's part of a unit I will take a picture of the unit befor I continue.
Good Luck to all participants !
And have fun. :D

Here's my entry. I'll give all you guys a good try at this - the model is funny, cool even, but not extremely flashy, freaky or anything, so excell in 'special effects' and I guess you got a great shot at beating me ;)

This is the Coolminiornot.com latest Limited Edition, called "Army Brat". I have included their artwork & painted version for reference. As you can see, I've replaced the gun with a Space Marine Bolter - looks a bit more awesome, to my taste :D

I chose it for it's big parts of (female) flesh - it's something I have little experience, so it'll be my own challenge as well - to paint it REALLY well.

I'm listening guys, how about this rule amendment...

Categories

1) best single miniature (can be mounted or be a war machine, monster)
2) best unit or group of miniatures (eg. in a diorama)
3) best modelling (ie. conversions, terrain, buildings etc)

Forum members can enter ALL categories but must nominate the category they are entering to try to win Karma.

A forum member can "win" all 3 categories but only gets karma for the one he nominated as his Karma entry.

Karma only goes to entries in the category the painter nominated as their karma category.

Example:-

Dims wins all 3 categories :D

Single Miniature category
-----------------------------
in votes order:-

1st Dims (karma entry)
2nd Luckless
3rd MonkeyMatt (karma entry)
4th Teddyw (karma entry)

Therefore, Dims gets the 10 Karma, MonkeyMatt gets 6 karma and Luckless gets 3 karma.

Not to worry though because Luckless nominated the Unit/Diorama category for his karma entry...

Units/Dioramas

1st Dims
2nd Luckless (karma entry)
3rd Teddy
4th Guardian_A (karma entry)
5th Sigmar (karma entry)

Luckless gets 10 karma, Guardian gets 6 karma and Sigmar gets 3 Karma.

I hope that doesn't sound too complex, it's very simple really... honestly !

Here is the model I will be painting. I have already got the skin done and I am pretty happy with it. This is the first ogre I have ever painted and I think they might be easier then other models.

I dont know what I'm going to do yet either. I figure that since I have almost 4 months to finish, I'll just document most everything I work on for a little while and wait until I paint something that I am particularly happy with.

Hey Sigmar, Those extra rules on being able to enter in more than one category is cool in itself, but one got to wonder how many of us will really be entering in more than one? I'd say that If there are such people, just let them, and let them be able to score in all of them. So what that they will get alotta karma?
And to ease all of the possible entrees: I will be entering in single mini only ;)

I agree, besides, if there are problems because of one person winning EVERYTHING we can always go back and revise things for the second competition.

Well I still hope you will enter, because I do not intend to scare the cr@p out of everybody so no-one will enter. And by the story you tell (not able to glue due to your parents) I know you must be a young kid? So you should get browniepoints for that anyway! I got a lot of years experience on you - not quite a fair comparison, right ;)
