Hi folks,

I thought it might be fun to hold a forum competition. I'm looking for you to post your ideas here.

I was thinking maybe we could have a competition a bit like Games Workshop's Golden Demon competition. Eg. best painted miniature, best unit, best diorama, best conversion, even best home-made terrain feature.

I just set up this thread to see if anyone was interested and if anyone had any ideas.

Hell yeah, always interested in painting competitions :D
I always like to do competitions that follow a theme.

I think you should do one once a month with a different theme each month.

sounds good so far, thanks Godless and dims.

I could give a bit more notice for more "complex" competitions like dioramas (in case a month isn't enough).

I reckon we need at least 8 entires for each compeition. We could have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd and award karma for the winners.

We might need to restrict the winning position to make sure it's not always taken by the "uber-painters"

I'm not sure really.

We could either have a categories, like beginners, experienced, veterans. Or maybe a better idea would be to allow everyone to participate in competitions but pass down the karma if a really good painter keeps winning. Eg. when someone wins in a category then they can only get the top place karma once. If they win again the next month then they still win but the karma goes to the 2nd place / 3rd place instead.

How does that sound ?

How about just two categories, beginners and veterans. How do you tell th two apart? How does one know what category to belong? I don't know.

Also, don't do more than 4 competitions a year, and even that is a lot. I think it will be tough to get 8 entries on any one comp, let alone if you do it every month or even every two months! Make it special, let people think and work on their entry. I personally would join about only two of these a year (maybe not this year though: trying to go for Golden Daemon this year :D).

I think painting competitions are a great idea, everyone gets a chance to see how they can do here which in turn will help them for their local competitions and it keeps them going sometimes on projects that may have been sitting on the shelf for a while. I also agree that you could maybe have one either once a month for a small unit or single character and then possibly have a few more stronger themed type catagories maybe 3 or 4 times a year. Just my thoughts!
:D

Ok how about we keep the first one really open ended.

Just 2 categories:-

1) Fantasy Terrain & Scenery modelling
2) Best fantasy miniature, unit, conversion

We could set our first competition date for entries as 31st July
(that's 4 months from now)

How to enter:-

1) Post a pic of your miniature in the thread I will set up.
2) Your pic must include a paper/cardboard label in front of the miniature/model/scenery saying :-

"battlereporter.freeforums.org June 09 entry"

To try to stop any sneeky goblin tactics of copying miniature pics from the internet and saying that the miniature is one of yours ;)

Once the deadline date is reached I will present all the entries in a 2 new neat and tidy threads. One thread for for scenery/terrain and 1 thread for miniatures. There will be a poll in each thread for forum members to vote for their favourite in each category (we'll give everyone a month to vote).

How does that sound ?

Great! I'll start painting right away. And no, I will not be sending in the Chaos lord on Juggernaut I'm still working on...

...or maybe I will...hehehe

That sounds great! Unfortunately, I probably won't be joining, seeing how I take 20 minutes to just prime the models...

Dims should be banned cos he is too friggen good at painting and will win all the time!! j/k :) but you are too good!

Maybe make it so someone cant win 2 times in a row?? You could still compete to see if you get ranked first (but you wouldnt get the prize?) it would then go to 2nd place if you won last time?

Who is judging this? I think a panel should be put in place rather than having just mass public debate about it.
