I thought this might be worth some discussion. I have never actually had Dogs of War deployed against me although I do maintain a unit of Ogres for my own armies... just in case I ever feel a bit low on toughness.

I'm having a hard time deciding because of two factors.

First off I would have chosen Dark Elves instantly if they we're still in 6th edition ( I religiously took Manflayers and nearly invested in a cannon) but with 7th edition they dont need either...

,,,Which leads me into my second, None of the 7th Edition army books say anything anywhere about allowing Dogs of War into their armies.

Dogs of War are forbidden? Ah well, Bretonnians need not mercenary swine to fill their ranks. Shame on them for fighting for money. Everyone knows we fight for honor and the glory of the charge! Hunh, pretty pointless and sad actually. lol

Oh they are most definitely still allowed, but you have to do some real searching for the rules and models to use them.

I'm actually currently running an empire army with Ricco's Republican Guard, Kislev Gryphon Legion, a giant, and the Halfling Hot Pot! Needless to say, it's loads of fun

isn't the giant in the orc&gobbos a dog of war?He is in thier book but seems like a merc due to the fact he eats what he kills and an occasional goblin, plus he's not green.(but then either are some trolls!)

Giants fall in with most armies. I'm pretty sure they appear in the Dogs of War, Orcs & Goblins, Ogre Kingdoms & Beasts of Chaos armies with some consistancy. I dont have the latter two books, but I have the Giant instructions in my lap, and all but the Dogs of War are listed as armies it can be configured for. I'm pretty sure the DoW only missed the list because GW has disscontinued that army.

I heard (on warseer I think), that DoW will be removed altogether from the next edition of the rules (out in 2010).

It's a shame because they add some character but I think they were just an excuse to keep using those old regiments of renown boxed sets that loads of people purchased.

Dogs of War Giants are only allowed in 6 armies

Dogs of War
Dark Elves
Empire
Skaven
Tomb Kings
Vampire Counts.

Orcs and Goblins and Ogre Kingdoms have their own Giants.

could not vote for some reason, but I would say the Orcs and Goblins and the Tomb Kings are fine candidates for needing to use D.o.W.

I've reopened the poll in case anyone would like to vote. It will not close now until we decide to close it manually.
