My close combat experience with the Wood Elfs has been dreadful at best. I have oft told the lurid, sad tale of waiting 14 years to play Wardancers, getting them into combat against Night Goblins so decimated they did not even have a rank bonus, getting the charge on them...and running without doing a casualty.
Sadly, that is the BEST success I have had (well, okay, so there was the time my Dryads charged the Dwarf Scouts who failed their Fear test, and got overrun for their un-Dwarfliness...but that detracts from my whining so I will not tell you about that) with Wood Elfs in close combat. The shooting, however, rocks the Kasbah for sure. In our campaign, my 750 point War Banner consists of a unit of 5 Glade Riders, 19 Glade Guard, 10 Waywatchers, and a Noble with Waywatcher Kindred and {ageant of Shikes. For those keeping score at home, that is potentially 19 S4 shots hitting on 3s or at worst 4s, 11 potential Killing Blows hitting on 2s or 3s, and one S4 hitting on 3+. Bwoohahahaha. The 5 Glade Rider shots almost do not even matter. But it is a total of 36 shots per turn. That can put a hurt on just about anybody.
unfortunately, my stupidity meant when I conquered an additional supply base, I used over half my points to add a Treeman to this little force. How, exactly, does he fit? Hey...I never said I was a GOOD player. Just because I know what should be done does not mean I am going to do it.
